World cruise

Humble brag time

Three days in Rome then we're off Jan 4th on a 118 nights world cruise Italy heading out and back to Italy in May
MSC (l know, l know but we like them) mainly because it was reasonable and had the stops we wanted

54 stops (sadly china looking less likely these days but who knows) but plenty of others
anyone else done such a trip. Handy hints tips etc

That's crazy I didn't even know that a cruise this long was even possible. I wish you a lot of fun!

Enjoy. Cruisers are not for me as when I know it’s inclusive of food and drinks I’m the guy who isn’t being served because they are losing money.

Wow, that will be fabulous, lots to see. Enjoy to the full. Mark me up as very jealous. I have only been on one cruise (Alaska) so not got any advice, we did get married on board in Seattle harbour though. I would keep a diary/journal for such a long trip.

We weren’t into cruising until last year. We thought that a cruise during Covid was the best option to travel so we gave it a go.
We are now fans and are planning on a World Cruise in the next couple of years. For us it’s finding the right itinerary for such a huge commitment. We are also pretty firm on doing it with a Luxury Cruise line (our current favorite is Regent).
Hopefully you post with your experiences as I would love to hear real world experience…enjoy!

Awesome journey! Please post photos.

How big of a cabin will you have?

On the travel blogs I have seen, people are always posting photos of large staterooms yet I know the majority of rooms on board are very small cabins with hardly even an area to sit down.

This!! Sounds like a blast! My wife is not a fan of boats/ships and gets motion sick easily so cruising isn’t for us but as a kid I went on a cruise to Alaska with my parents and it was super fun. Wish you the best and safe travels!

Sounds superb and I’m not that great fan of holidays. Would be a great idea to start a thread here on TRF and post a photo or two in each port.

I wouldn't be so quick to slag MSC cruises. I've never been, but their ships look nice and I did watch a Netflix documentary on cruising and it was aboard an MSC ship.

Have a wonderful time.

we are lucky that we have three apartments here in Tenerife including ours we are Airbnb'ing and a car which is out for hire so it offsets the cost some.
I'm also selling my business and retiring (actually tomorrow 22nd is the legal signing over after several delays). This process has been very tricky but this trip has fallen right at the right time and fingers crossed it all falls into place

my partner has been on many cruises before I've only had one a two week trip round the Caribbean. Takes a wee while to get into but if you like all inclusive holidays think of a cruise as a AL hotel on its side where every morning you wake up with a different view..You don't even have to go off the boat if you CBA
if this works we plan to travel a lot more

I love cruising, but 118 days, I don't think I could deal with that. My ideal cruise is 10-11 days. Going to Hawaii on a 16 day trip in a few months and although it's a bit too long, I will somehow deal with it.

For some being away from home for too long is difficult mentally. It might be for us who knows but it's unlikely as we both left our separate homeland (UK & Lithuania) to live here in the sun
My partner is slightly more apprehensive leaving Tenerife as she adores living here but personally as someone who doesn't get homesick I think I'll be ok.
I'm on the cruise FB page and quite a few posters have done several of these trips so can't be all bad

I love vacationing, of course, but I'm afraid that 118 days on a cruise ship might not be enough for me, without work and socializing with my friends. But all the same, it is very cool if you decide to take this step and you have such an opportunity.
The trip was 14k euro each. However I've rented my apartment and car out Dalia's two apartments are rented which offsets the cost by around 40,% so for us ends up as a good deal
I don't need my friends or family around me now does my partner. We both moved from our homeland pretty much on our respective own. Me from UK her from Lithuania as we met in Tenerife...

Currently onboard and day 3and for me it's been fantastic so far. Loving every minute

My renter's have already reserved my apartment for three months next year so we're off again next year somewhere. Probably far east like Bali Thailand or Vietnam but as a long stay not cruise tbc

The first three days from Rome to Barcelona was a mix of short trip and world cruisers
Now they have gone and the ship is now all world cruisers the Rolex quota has gone right up.

Many TT and lady datejusts

Very nice!

My in laws did two world cruises in the mid 1990s in rapid succession of each other. They were around 100 days each. The itineraries and the cruise industry have changed so much since then. Many of the stops they did see no longer being offered.

There were many very wealthy people on board. One woman booked a large cabin just for her clothes…

Having done over 30 cruises, I love them. Not sure I’d want to do a world cruise because of the sea days, however I’d consider it as a retirement present possibly. Looking at your itinerary, there looks some amazing places. Only tip I’ll give is to use the stairs and never take the lifts, as you’ll need to keep fit due to all the lovely food.

Enjoy every minute :-)
