I think the 40mm Saxonia moonphase released offers the best bang for your buck. At $29k, you get an always moving moon disc, automatic, big date, 3 hands.
The Lange 1 is $37k and trades moon for power reserve, and is manual. Automatic Lange 1 (daymatic) is $43k, which tells us ALS values the auto at $6K. Moonphase manual Lange 1 is $58k, and the disc is static. So if we’re going purely by math, the Saxonia Moonphase should be $64k (58+6), as it’s just a Lange 1 with a different dial layout. Surprised it only has 1 vote, I’d take it over a Lange 1 all day - until they do a price correction. |

I'm a huge Lange fan and if I had to choose only one, I'd probably opt for an 1815 Chronograph (you choose the metal and dial) because it has the most beautiful chronograph movement ever made, in my opinion, and is such a great value. But it's not on your list so I'll move on.
I'm personally not a Lange 1 fan but it is, arguably, their signature watch. If I had to get one, I'd definitely opt for a moonphase to make it a big more interesting. If the Lange 1 is calling you, get it and don't look back. As to the ones on your list, I'd personallly choose the 1815 Annual Calendar because I love moonphases and classic calendars. (This will probably be my next Lange.) If you wanted an automatic instead with a more contemporary look and an easier to read date, then the Saxonia Annual Calendar would be the obvious choice. Neither watch, however, screams "Lange" but they are still gorgeous watches. The Up Down is probably more "Lange" than the calendars and it's a gorgeous piece and would definitely be in the running for me. Still, Vaxe makes a really strong argument for the value of the Saxonia moonphase and with it you get their signature large double date and a gorgeous moonphase, so that's hard to argue with as well. It really is a handsome, versatile watch too. You have a nice, exciting problem to solve! |
