Rolex Explorer II 16550

Hi Folks,

First post here- so hopefully this belongs in the vintage section- I guess that depends on the answer to my question!

I would never post querieson a watches legitimacy before buying, as I appreciate that must flood forums like this. But I did already purchase this watch, and so now am more than a little concerned I've been ripped off....

It is an Explorer II ref 16550, black dial, and dated as 1987 by the dealer I bought it from.

I've had it a few months right now, but someone recently brought it to my attention that the 'Swiss Made' labelling of the Dial was not used on this model, but only the 16570 and dating much later in the 2000's.

I was sold this as 'all original' except the bracelet which is almost certainly a replacement one (and feels extremely light and cheap but that it less of a concern right now). I would really appreciate any thoughts on whether there could be an explanation for this dial asides Rolex servicing and replacing....

Also on the watch as a whole- the characteristic 'Fat' bezel numbers of the 16550 reference look quite thin, and almost 'too' precise on this, compared to the others I've seen. The general shape of the numbers also seem slightly different to almost any other I can find.

Movement looks legitimate and fine- I did at leats check that before buying! But thoughts on this also appreciated.

Maybe a transitional model....maybe a marriage watch....or even a franken?

Thanks!

D

Yes, it is a service dial. Bracelet is 78360 which is for 16570 not 16550.
