How to wind a Datejust II Serial 116300

I just purchased a 116300 in Paris. I love the watch. My concern is that without english directions I am afraid to wind it. I was shown how to do it in the store but I prefer to have something that I can refer to.

What are the proper winding and setting directions for this watch.

THanks:bye

POS. 1 (crown unscrewed and just free of threads): handwinding position, use if watch is stopped. 35-45 turns, is a good general recommendation although you can't overwind the mechanism

POS. 2: rapid setting of date

POS. 3: second hand stops and watch can be set

Don't understand why you don't have "English directions" though. The manual accompanying new Rolex watches have sections in several major languages, English included (of course!).

How to wind a Datejust II Serial 116300

Thanks for the response. I purchased it at the Rolex store next to the Ritz. (Place Vendome) So I am sure it is authentic. I got the green box the cool warranty card the multilingual warranty book but my instruction book is only in French. I know it is "ODD". Perhaps will go back and try again. We are here for another 10 days.

Some other points of clarification about winding and setting the time and date.

Position 1 only turn crown clockwise?
Position 2 only turn crown clockwise? I read somewhere that when you are changing the date the hour hand should not be between 9 and 3 since this strains the mechanism.
Position 3 crown can be turned in both directions?

Once again thankyou.

Position 1--you can turn the crown clockwise or counterclockwise, safely....however, only clockwise turns will wind the watch. Some handwind only forward (clockwise) while others like forward-backward motion to wind. Makes no difference to your watch, so use whichever technique suits your fingers the best

Position 2--there are movements where hand position should definitely be carefully attended to, lest damage occur to the calendar mechanism during adjustments. However, as far as I know modern Rolex calibers can be adjusted whenever you like.

Position 3--both directions work. Although, perhaps out of habit (and respect for other mechanical watches that might not allow) I try to stick to forward adjustment whenever possible. Again, your Datejust should be fine adjusted either forward or backward.
