5164 or rolex 116655
I already have a 5712a and now want another watch for daily wear.
Which do you think is better? 5164a or 116655? |

I recently tried on the YM and really was impressed with the Oysterflex, but I would still prefer a 5164. That and the 12' is a great combo.

116519LN is the answer. I have that as a daily rotation pair with the 5712/1A and it's perfect.

For a daily, I'd go with the 5164! Unless you really want a RG case then the YM is a beauty as well.

Of course 5164. They are not on the same level.

I would first decide if you want RG or not. If you do, then second question is is the delta $ between the 5164r and YM worth it to you.

I like my 519 better than the YM I think I’d like that pair best. The 64 is spectacular also but if add a Rolex that’s a little more carefree

YM is a ton of watch for the money...it’s half the price of a 5164. Not at all a fair fight.

Ceramic bezel is an important consideration for a daily wearer. I got a ding on my 5164 bezel 2 weeks in and simmered about it for months... it probably played a factor in me moving it on.
The 116519LN is the most "Patek feeling" Rolex I've ever owned. Stunning dial, feel and tones throughout. |

5164 for me no doubt
I like the YM too though. You’ve got two great picks

I had the 116655. I have the 5164.
If funds allow in the future, I’ll pick up the YM again in the future. It’s a really beautiful watch. The matte black on rubber and RG is a perfect combo. It’s also extremely well balanced. I love the watch. But I do prefer wearing the 5164. Way under the radar. Incredible comfort and the complication is, to me, one of the most useful.

I have the RG YM. Make sure you get an Easylink if you get this watch. I was about to flip mine, then I had my AD get an Easylink and now it’s a definite keeper. In general, I think most Rolexes are more “duarabke” than Pateks. Don’t get me wrong, Patek makes VERY nice watches, but their sports line (read Nautilus & Aquanaut) Watch bezels are scratch magnets if you’re not careful. The Ceramic bezel on my YM has had some unfortunate bumps and has come out on top! Every time!

I’ve seen the aquanaut in person. I firmly believe if it weren’t a patek... it would go for less than a reverso on grey market. Let’s just say I think it’s hideous. I’d go for the yacht master. Just know the YM is huge on the wrist by comparison. The aquanaut is understated and .. just not my thing.

Intersting observations.
And I’m not arguing the matter. But I do love the looks of most sport Pateks. Thinking back to my earlier days, I don’t recall feeling that way. I suppose they must have grown on me. However, out of any watch I’ve had I get the most comments/compliments on the 5726. And the first time I saw a 5164 in the wild, I loved it. Looks though, I think the 116655 is one of, if not the most, strikingly beautiful watch I’ve ever seen.
