I am looking at a GMT II and found one new for just 1K more than a mint one. The New is a highly reputable dealer - not AD, and is even mentioned on this forum several times as being such

The used is a MINT listed on this forum by another reputable person

What would you do? I need to figure this out pretty quickly so all responses are welcomed!!

the new becomes mint as soon as you use it. you save 1k - treat your wife/girlfriend out for a dinner.

As long as the "mint" one is not too old, go for that. You will not notice the difference. 10 Ben Franklins in your pocket is a wonderful thing!

Mint.

If you think you'll feel the difference which you probably won't, then get the new.

It boils down to whether you'll get over the fact it's mint and just enjoy having a superb watch.

Buy the seller. There are several of good repute here on TRF. Mint works, but I have bought new from an AD too. Go with your gut.

If the watch is not too old,if it is you might have to consider a service into the price making a new one better value. Nothing wrong with used though.

maybe is your first rolex so it´s important for you to have a new one, like the first girlfriend...then you get use to mint stuff...

Buy a preloved mint and save. Sometimes some AD's can be a bit inflated. Check out the for sale page on TRF.. There are some beauty's there..

How much more would it be to get the watch at an AD? Walking into a dealer and buying a brand new watch makes for a wonderful experience and memory. Also, you build a relationship with a business for future service, trade-ins, etc.

I bought my first Rolex from a dealer on TRF, however, I focused on buying the seller then the watch. I bought mine from the seller by the name of PGAPro - a very good & trusted seller which sold me an authentic (verified from an AD Rolext dealer) Rolex.

nothing beats removing all the protective plastic wrappings, sizing and wearing it!

but buy one that your budget allows too.

the good thing about used, imo, is you tend to wear the watch more naturally, who cares abouth scuffs and knocks. for a brand new one on wrist, the deliberation to be more careful hinders the enjoyment at times.

Saving that much money is worth it. But service can cost a minimum of $650 plus shipping plus a month to 45 daysto get back. Make sure the watch is within cosc limits and go for it!
There is a TV ad in Dallas that says it best: "no one is wearing a new Rolex".

Yeah depends what year model is the mint one?

I would have a look first, plus if your budget allows I'd go for new for the 100% peace of mind and warranty.

I would definitely say new, especially if your keeping it long term. I know opinions vary, but I'm the type of guy that could sleep better at night knowing the watch was NEVER abused,dropped,knocked on the wall,etc. Plus the card shouldn't have a name on it new, other than yours, in case you hand it down. Your the original owner. Just my 3 cents.
