Anyone owned a 35.6mm Aquanut 5060a or 5066?

Hi everyone,

Just want to hear 1st hand feedback from owners who owned the earlier Aquanuts which has been forsaken by the general market due to its smallish-ness.

But I am tempted to buy 1 due to the price factor and the fact I have small wrist about 6.75 inch.

Hope you guys can chip in. Thanks.

My wrist is even smaller than yours and opted for the 5165. When comparing that one to the older 5065 and 5066 the integrated strap and the reworked dial made all the difference for me.

But the aquanaut line generally to me is so versatile. And the rubber straps are very comfortable.

Just mentioning as when I was looking for something to fit my smaller wrist I didn’t even know the 5165 existed. Price factor isn’t great on the 5165 though as it is a bit over the gray prices on the 5167.

i prefer the 5066 over the 5060 because it has an exhibition case. Seeing the movement
Is a real treat. I like the size as well, but I'm a relatively small person.

Had a 5065 and loved it till the service centre replaced the dial and hands. Then I sold it.

I much prefer the older dial design and strap design.

Jumbo Aquanut like 5165 is sought after highly compared to the 35mm version like 5066 and 5060.

Is the 3mm really that important?

I have a 5060a and like it. It is the original Aquanaut so it is an important piece of PP history.

It was not the ladies size in the late 90s and would characterize it as a good watch for anyone who likes it today.

The 5060 is not that inexpensive...they seem to list between 18k and 22k USD. At that price I'd get a 5167.

Your comments are inflammatory and it's disappointing when it comes from someone who claimed to be a fan of Patek Philippe watches.

I got one from the first batch and wore it for years and it was my only watch during that time. Finally, sold it for something. Cannot remember.

The 5066 wears like a vintage watch due to its size and the color of the lume. It is terrific looking and isn't much smaller than the million dollar Paul Newman Daytonas that all the tech billionaires and rock stars wear. Considering the price, it's hard to go wrong, and the yellow gold version is superb.

I have the same size wrist and think the 5167 is just perfect. I wouldn’t want to go smaller.

With a price gap of $5,000 and more between 5167 and 5066, is it a good time to buy 5066 for gentleman with modest wrist?

I’ve had a 5066a from new, worn nearly every day for twenty years (with the battle scars to prove it). Never polished, original hands and lume. It’s my favorite watch by a mile. It looks perfectly proportionate on my 6” wrists - I struggle with larger watches and hate that oversize, overweight sensation although I currently mostly wear a BLNR most days - not because I like it more (I don’t) but because with three children under 7 it is more robust and I fear for it less.

Edited to add: this is not a “ladies’” watch. At the time it was a mid size model, and I tried on all sizes of the Aquanaut and the Nautilus and remember it being a toss-up between the 5066a and the 3800. Being in my teens, I chose the 5066a. I do not regret the decision at all, and trying on a 5711 and 5167 recently, firmly believe they are too large. Labeling these as feminine is just bs and people, remember: toxic masculinity is toxic.

Thinking another way, it’s a terrible time to buy a 5066. That price gap is meaningless and people want the (slightly) larger one. It will fit your wrist fine.

If George Soros can carry a 36mm Aquanut, so can we... Anyway size is a matter of personal preference since our wrists are of different sizes.

Looks absolutely wonderful.

34-40mm is the perfect size range for a man's wrist, in my highly personal view.

I keep hoping the trend for large watches will die off (and it does seem like brands are reverting to smaller sizes, save for Patek).

I have a 5060 from 2002 and on my 7.25 inch wrist, it wears a little small.

Thanks. I absolutely adore it too. Here is the BLNR for comparison. I know it is too big, but it’s really hard to find a good 35-38mm sports beater nowadays and the BB58 wasn’t out yet when I was shopping..

Dear George,

Can you show more wrist shots of the Aquanut? You made me rethink the possibility of buying a 5060 since I also have small wrist like below 6.75 inch.

Thanks.

It a not bad at all but obviously it s on the large size range ,you may can try an older 5digit reference those wears a tick smaller or a nice 116520 that s rather 39mm than 40.
Great collection you own for sure!congrats

Here is a picture of my 38mm 5165. My wrist is just a shade over 6” for reference and this smaller version fits perfectly.
