Gifting a Sea Dweller - which year?

For my father's 60th I want to get him his first Rolex. Since he has bigger wrists I was thinking a Sea Dweller. Should I:

A) Go with a vintage. My birth year: 1983

or

B) Buy new

or

C) Choose different model. I have a BLNR so not that one.

Newest version you can afford. If we're talking about different models (not sure why.. if you think Sea Dweller is the right call) I would always take a Sub-Date over the Sea Dweller.

He has always liked the Sea Dweller, but I see your point...

You may want to look at the DSSD if it's in your budget

Go ceramic, either SD4000 or DSSD. Very nice gesture, I hope he enjoys it!

I'm longing for a birth year watch, so I would take that route.

But at the end of the day, go with the one you like most.

This. A regular SD isnt large, it can actually look smaller on the wrist due to thinner lugs and smaller face. The DSSD will look great on his wrist.

I like vintage. Your birth year would be very cool.

If you go vintage - are you aware that the dial on a SD is smaller than a 14060? Just sayin'.

I would go for a vintage SD. :)

That's very thoughtful. Go with your birth year. That way there is a bond between the three of you, watch included.
