1680 bezel question
hello all. i went to look at a 1981 1680 submariner over the weekend, it was all refurbed and looked great. but my question is with the bezel, it didnt have the "click" when spun and it was going both ways, and i thought the sub bezel was uni, but i'm unaware of the vintages.
also, figured i'd ask for a price check. no box or papers. https://images.craigslist.org/00b0b_...t_1200x900.jpg https://images.craigslist.org/00E0E_...W_1200x900.jpg thanks! |

Sub 1680 bezels do not click but rotate freely in both directions. Unidirectional click bezels appeared with the Sub 16800 with the sapphire crystal which replaced the Submariner 1680.
Additionally, the watch on Craig's list has a service dial and insert which should be factored in the price.

That's a head to toe Rolex service watch at this point, with a stretched-out bracelet. There's nothing wrong with that, as long as you know what you're getting and recognize that it has virtually no vintage appeal. Personally, I'd pass, but I certainly wouldn't pay more than $3500 if I was in the market for a daily beater.

Question is... Are you buying to wear? If it's been serviced and is ready for duty, which it appears it is then it's a fine watch. I've typical seen these go for $5000 or so. It's your business on what you wish to buy one for. I've been offered lot's of cash for my daily wear "serviced head to toe" 1680 that's a 1977 year unit. Fortunately I'm keeping it on my wrist for a few more decades.
