Vintage Big Crown

Hello TRF comrades,

I'm a bit confused by this because I can't seem to find any other examples of this gilt dial variation.

It's running a call 1030.



But the dial is one I've never seen before.

I guess its safe to call that dial the Gecko foot dial

the case looks nice and appears to have its original wide chamfers intact.

insert is a later more common mk3 service insert that rolex used during the late 60's early 70's.

the dial as others have said is a terribly done reprint. The hands however seem to be the original long style gilt hands that have been re lumed.

It's not a worthless piece by any means. Still worth a pretty penny. Gilt dials and even early tritium dials are almost impossible to find. Rolex for a short period did make lumi service dials for 6538's.. Now, the only option is to go through the rolex heritage dep in Genève. However, the cost of that is very expensive.

If you always wanted to own a big crown and wear as a daily piece without worries of 200k+ value, then this would be a great piece, you could source a much better refinished dial for this piece as well.

But if you're looking for a watch that contains genuine rolex parts and or all original parts, then you need to find one in such condition, because as stated, parts for big crowns are as hard to find as hens teeth.

Not necessarily relumed. Not the biggest thing but they look okey to me.
