I’d be interested what our experts make of the 6542
This supposedly genuine 6542 with ‘ killer” dial and “genuine” bezel just sold for $17,100 on eBay. To my limited knowledge the dial and hands look completely wrong and the very least is a SCOC service dial or a 1675 dial and the bezel appears to be from a 1675 also. I’d be really interested in our learned members comments on the forum

Service Dial and Insert/Bezel,Dial is damaged to boot. These Prices are getting absolutely insane. It DOES have a All Red GMT Hand which has been disputed If Rolex actually made them but sell for 3K alone regardless.

Right... an incorrect red GMT hand that belongs on a 1675. The 6542 has the tiny GMT hand. Also obviously the main draw (to me anyway) of the 6542 is the bakelite insert, which is clearly missing here.

What a piece of :)... I would not buy it for half the price...
I just don't understand how this kind of watch can be bought by someone who apparently knows nothing about the 6542 |

Back plate markings highly suspect also , no date or period marking...( perhaps the very early ones didn’t have it?) this “piece” was sold by another auction house...description extremely misleading if not fraudulent...someone is going to be very disappointed... buyer beware

OMG! Can't understand how someone can spend that money for that watch :-O
Only if you already have a correct dial/caseback/GMT hand/insert... but it's a little bit doubtful... |

Now, I have been known to very occasionally enjoy an alcoholic beverage or two, and once or twice over the years have made an ill-advised online bid or purchase while not thinking clearly. Those "Persian Rug" mousepads from AliExpress were a surprise, for example. But that was ten bucks and the mousepads are great.
You could buy a crappy CAR for what someone just paid for this franken. I sure hope whoever won that auction cancels it before payment goes through |

with any luck PayPal buyers protection will help, but I have to say it beggars belief that someone will spend that kind of money without doing some kind of minimal homework on the reference at the very least, crazy.
