5712 ... SS or Rose Gold
So the pre-owned prices are fairly close between a SS and the Rose with leather deployant strap. Is the Rose Gold too dressy with leather? Why wouldn't you purchase precious metal over SS for the same price in the long run?

5172 ... SS or Rose Gold
To me it’s all about that blue dial. Also the Nautilus bracelet is a thing of beauty and in my opinion a big part of the watch. But truly you can’t go wrong with either.

5712R and 5711/1a blue dial make a perfect combination for me.

Ah I love the 5712 as is, but I also love a 5712R on a rubber strap :D
But I can't have both, so it will have to be 5712 SS.

5712R is awesome, but then again you want a experience a Nautilus with bracelet like a 5712/1a.
The R version looks hotter than the “blue” dial of the 5712/1a that is not that blue really. I had both and I really don’t know which I prefer. Is very personal, but if we go to a tiebreaker I would side with the one with the highest demand, 5712/1a. So there you go, go Steel , the new gold Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well the issue for me is that I've never seen either in person! LOL!!!
Thank you so much for posting photos. That blue does look very nice. How big is your wrist? Mine are 205mm and i'm wondering if the 5712 will look small? Apologies for messing up the model designation ... as most have been nice enough not to flame me. LOL
I meant to say 5712! |

jrs146 ... How big is your wrist? Mine are 205mm (just over 8 inches) and would this watch look small?

SS for me even at the same price. The Nautilus bracelet is extraordinary in its comfort and finishing and is an integral part of the watch for me. And the blue on the SS is really striking (not that the chocolate dial on the R is a slouch.)

I had the choice of both, and went with the R. I get bored of almost any normal stainless watch, and the 5712, despite being a patek and still special didn't change that for me...the R however is just absolutely stunning...couldn't imagine parting with it, while I've parted with EVERY one of my SS nautilus on bracelet models I've had while I've had the 5712r.

I like the shiny inter-links in the bracelet, and the brushed finishing outside. My preference is the bracelet.

On 20,5cm wrists I am afraid a Nautilus will look tiny, apart from Panerai or AP ROO not sure what wouldn’t to be honest, in any case clearly try to see it in real before buying anything, 20,5 is a very big wrist size, that’s slightly avove 8 inches for our American friends...

I have about a 7.5” wrist. To me the size is perfect. Although it’s not large by any means. It wears about as you would expect for a 40mm watch. The ears help give it a little more wrist presence. However I’d throw out that it’s not a diver so I’m okay with it being slightly on the smaller side. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thank you for sharing photos! Right now I normally wear a 46mm Omega Seamaster or Big Pilot. When I do have a chance to wear my Batman, it does look kinda small. I’m still trying to find a way to try someone’s 5712 so I can finally decide if I want the watch or not ... maybe possible alternate is 5980? It appears bigger in photos.

I’m headed to France in September ... think the Paris PP salon might have one nautilus to try on?

I went with the R. I do prefer the RG but I can see the attraction to the SS bracelet. It’s too bad that PP will probably never make a RG bracelet that will fit the 5712R!

I think the RG bracelet from 5711-1r should fit but I am not sure. Also PP may not sell you one.

I prefer the models on a bracelet in either SS or PM. I would not take a model that I did not want based on price. In the long run buy what you really want at the best price you can find and enjoy the watch. Having owned Platinum, RG, WG and YG watches you will be in a different market when you decide to sell or trade.
