I think rolex is right to not bump up production to meet the crazily increased demand. it's just the AD selling their sports models under the table to those grey dealers spoils it.

I completely agree with this.

The market - is in such flux right now — but it will normalize - and might start next year. I suspect in a handful of years the waiting times for all of the hyped up models (brand agnostic) will be much more reasonable - as the current state is simply unsustainable - unless certain models (I.e. Nautilus, Daytona) are on the block yo be discontinued —- but I don’t suspect that is the case....

just put some policemen disguise as a target for the mopeds. wearing a gold sub or something, and hit them hard when they come robbing.

Neil, I whole heartedly want to believe this. Because I honestly don’t think this current climate is sustainable for Rolex, by all means keep the Daytona as a ‘reward’ watch for buying every PM under the sun. But the rest need to be in some form of decent distribution!!!

Define both "professional" and what would be considered "professionally using a Rolex". Would you need to take a Submariner diving...Would you have to be a Navy submariner?? Do you need to be a pilot to use a GMT, or can you be a traveller...and travelling for profession or pleasure??

My watches are tools, organizational tools. But I'm no longer in the navy and not a pilot. As an Artillery Officer by trade, "time on target" is a crucial concept that saves lives. When I receive my ordered BLNR, and use it day-to-day for work (be it office, field, or on overseas deployment)...is this not "professional"?

To be a professional using a Submariner you've got to be either named Jacques (diving) or James (killing). To use a GMT professionally you have to fly for Pan Am!!! To use a Milgauss you need to work in a profession where your computer doesn't need charging because of proximity to some equipment you work with. Really pretty simple, really.

Rolex doesn't even sell you the watch you want so it makes no difference if you boycott it, how can you boycott something that you can't even buy from your ADs by default? Basically they don't care IMO, sorry.

I have a few friends who like Rolex but are not that into watches and it always amuses me when they save up for that elusive sub they walk in only to realise that even if they have the money, they can’t just walk in and buy one (at a AD anyway). I don’t know what you guys think, but it’s almost a double edged sword, you feel quite proud when you finally have one and the lack of availability almost feels better on the other side of the fence, but then that quickly fades when it’s time to buy the next one lol *headbang*

That is a fair point Brian, every year they will release a hot model or two now and so the hype train will keep on going while the world's economies do not collapse.

I can believe it because Brexit and the '17-'18 surge in the stockmarket and cryto and QE and Chinese Bribery laws etc were not the grand construct of the marketers at Rolex, they just got lucky with all this global demand. So they may be taking advantage of all this fortune now but they have not been strategically planning to engineer it.

I don't think things will go back to '16 levels, I do think the market is fundamentally changed and faces a tough future, but it should be more open going forward.

Disheartening certainly but then in the grey market he can pick one up for maybe a 1-2K premium... whereas the poor demoralised Nautilus buyer, who has carefully saved up his 20K, walks in and now finds he needs to find another 20!

I have been following the UK grey market as I am thinking of buying from this source as been waiting for 7 months - I noticed in the last 4 weeks the watches are still there not sold - I have been in contact with a couple of sellers and contacted them again after 3 weeks they still have the same watches for sale - (hulk) are these greys actually selling at these inflated prices? Or has the market cooled? I think it has so will wait and give it another 6 months I really didn’t want to pay over Msrp and want to build a relationship with an ad.

But as long as people pay, why would they consider, right?
