Maybe you should not go, sounds very unsafe!

i hate to have to dictate where i go at a destination based on the watch I bring. I know I went to Naples and after I heard two folks of 150 at the conference were robbed-- I put my Panerai 311 in the hotel safe and did not wear a watch.

If it's going to cause you stress, is it worth it? I mean, isn't the point of a vacation to unwind and relax?

if you think you are safe so is your watch and visa versa, situational awareness and common sense goes a long way

Stay in the water in front of the resort and your watch will be fine.

As long as you're in the confines of the resort and you keep it on your wrist you should have no worries. But I wouldn't be leaving it behind in the room (room safe or not) ever, not even once.

Having traveled a lot of work there are many areas in the world I wouldn't want to wear a Rolex. Jamaica is borderline. Resorts are no issue. Public areas in broad daylight pose very little risk. The problem with most vacation spots is you simply don't know what the locals know. This stop sign has 70 car jackings a year, these 3 streets are known for late night muggings, this entire area is known for motorcycle thieves.

Essentially it doesn't do you any good to look well off in any underdeveloped or poor country especially when you're a tourist.

Are you going to get shot--are you serious?

Are you going to be hanging out in the worst part of town or at your posh resort?

These 'is it safe' threads are silly.

I may be in the minority here, but if I'm going on vacation, I usually wear a cheap(er) watch to avoid any possibility of concern. If I'm traveling for a business trip, then that's not the case.

The counter argument is "do you want to leave your watch[es] at home in an empty house?"

You'll be fine, stay on the resort, don't act like a 'money man/baller' and all will be well.

My 1st trip to Jamaica I took a Fossil I got for being in a wedding and left my only Rolex at home along with my wedding band (it has diamonds - I bought a tungsten ring at wal-mart before I left). My wife left her engagement ring & Rolex too.

2nd trip my milgauss went and I wore my wedding band - wife probably wore her engagment ring. I felt I was way too cautions the first-time. First two trips were to Iberostar grand in MoBay/rose hall (I highly recommend it).

3rd trip I took my expII and my wife took her diamond 31mm DJ. Stayed at Riu Palace in Negril. I wore it off resort, and didn't feel uncomfortable, but I was never really outside a tourist area.

Why go on holiday with the expectation of being robbed, I was a bit of an adrenalin junky in my youth? I got robbed...

But why put yourself there?

Go somewhere where you can explore and wear a watch!
