Probably going to get some hate messages but YES - the 36mm is Women size these days.
Its way too small. Look at it next to the Daytona how small it looks and the Daytona is already smallish watch. 36mm these days IS a women size like it or not. Go into an AD and ask for a 36mm. Watch the expression on their face when you ask it. LOL "Sir - thats a womens size watch". Ive had that exact line said to me twice. I agree with this response. For decades high tech in watches was 35mm or less. The poster who said 'any dealer' would call these 'womens' watches' is implying that the current fashion for large watches (> 40mm) is permanent. I'll agree that a watch lasts a lot longer than an article of clothing, but Rolex is still tracking to this fashion trend of large watches, while (I think, smartly) covering themselves by offering a wide, deep, and beautiful selection of watches in the 34 - 36mm range. After all, if fashions were permanent, we'd all still be dressing like this. Last edited by jstan9; 7 August 2017 at 08:11 AM.. Reason: Quote was missing |

I have a small wrist and 40mm is about as big as I can wear. It bums me because I love the SkyDweller but think the 42mm will look like a monster on my arm!
Here are my two rolexes, the 35mm Yachtie and the 40mm GMT BLNR |

The 36mm looks very appropriate on your wrist, as it would most, considering the classic reserved nature of this wrist watch.
Sports watches at 40mm+ are fine, but a classic dress watch lives best between 35-37mm imho of course. |

36mm is a great size for most wrists. But if it looks too small to you then it's too small. I think it looks great in the pic for what it's worth

You're right the DJ41 feels like a 40mm to me which is why I gravitated towards it. The DJII and DDII feel too big for my personal taste.

I have tiny wrists so could only ever pull off 40mm or less so I think 36mm is pretty perfect.
It's such a classic and a keeper IMO. |

Exactly right.... a dress watch should slide nicely UNDER your shirt cuff not bind it up, elegance is in the subtlety....

36 is fine. I had two 36 mm Day Dates over the years, but when the DD II came out, I couldn't resist the larger size. I loved the DD II for years, though at times, it seemed a bit large for me. At first, I resisted the idea of going back down in size when the 40 came out, but once I tried a few of the 40's on, I realized the case sat better on my arm and I liked the overall proportions better, so I went for the 40. In the end though, the reason I went back to the 40 was because its proportions more resembled the traditional, classic Day Date 36. I am happy with the 40. I'm sure though that if I had gone back to the 36, it would also have felt fine after a couple of days. But If I had to choose today, I'd still take the 40.

Cue every new Sea Dweller & Sky Dweller owner. EDL7 has declared you in a mid life crisis
Something that I also find amusing (not correlated to you EDL)......members will say 'who cares if the Daytona measures 38.5 but is marked as a 40, it's only 1.5mm, essentially nothing, who cares?'. but then some will also say '40 to 42 is WAY too large, huge difference, make it unwearable'. Makes a lot of sense. |

If I were a AD salesperson and someone walked in and asked for a $40,000 "ladies 36mm" DD, I would politely smile, "Champagne?"..... never talk yourself out of a sale.

Dd36
Hi
Ive had a couple of DD36m over the years and now have a DD40m as my daily wearer. I bought my wife a 36mDJ and she has the tiniest wrists and it looks in proportion. I think the trends for really large watches are going away but there is no doubt that people want bigger watches than the 34/36m were made decades ago. |

Only on the internet do I read about dudes wearing 36mm watches and telling the world how awesome they are in year 2017.
36mm is way too small for a grown adult man. |

Love 36mm it's not about what others think but what you like. If all you do is worry about other people's opinion you will never be happy. Popular opinion changes often.

Personally, I do not care what the opinion others have on this subject. The DD 36 is pure class. Period. I'm enjoying mine immensely. However, I've tried on the DD 40 and love that one too. A lot. The DD 41 seemed nice too but I found the bezel to be a bit too wide. Either one you choose is fine, but a true watch connoisseur shouldn't be swayed by the male vs female argument.

I can't get over how some people have become groomed or subliminally brainwashed somehow to only love ginormous watches. Not everyone has the same build or wrist size. It's not a one size fits all world for watches. So saying that a 36mm is too small for men is really crazy nonsense IMO. 36mm will always be a classy understated men's size watch and will look best on some men's wrist. It looks fabulous on those who shared their 36mm photos here.
Just my opinion, but on many women, I find the 36mm to look too big as if they are wearing their husbands watch. Like carrying around an anchor on the wrist. Again, not a one size fits all. Works for some and not others. So no, I do not think 36mm is too small for men these days. This statement is so ridiculous to me. I think your DayDate looks perfect on your wrist!
