Day Date 36mm Too Small

36mm DD is still the best looking. The 40 bezel is still too ungainly in person.

I tried on a 36mm and it was too small on my 7 3/4" wrist. 40mm is my sweet spot. I also wear a 44.25mm Speedmaster and while it's a large watch, it works for me. It's not just about balancing your wrist size with your watch size. It's about wearing what YOU like. There is no right or wrong.

Naturally, it's how it looks on your wrist.
But there are darker issues at play. Does the above statement refer to how it looks to you, or looks to others?
Looking at your watches, your taste seems conservative, classic, self assured and non sycophantic.
It's a bit worrying that you now feel 36 too small. I doubt your wrist size has changed. Or the position where you wear your watch. So that leaves your mind subliminally telling you to keep up with the times.

How does your mind's eye see the watch on your wrist? From the posted pic - it looks great.
Some large watches are only available in one size, Deep Blue JC for example. I deem it too large for me, but still bought it. I think perhaps if the 36 never was, but was 38 - I would be just as pleased, as I think you would have.
Btw, you know when someone opts for a black 116500 & 326934 that he's bucking the trend and buying for himself.

My personal opinion is that 36mm suits older men (at least over 50) better than it does younger men. It also depends a lot on the size of your wrists and the size of you in general (if you are tall or fat a smaller watch might look...well, small). From the pic you posted of it on your wrist, I think it looks fine, however I also don't think a 40mm watch would look too big.

Sorry but you really couldn't believe how little I would care about the opinion of a sales person in determining what I should wear or how I should look.

The only thing that sort of comment would do is convince me to spend my money elsewhere - but each to their own!

a lot of black and white definitive yes and no answers coming from certain people in this thread. I loved a vintage piece, 34mm, solid gold, bought it, wore it for 10+/- years. Now I wear my 36mm, this has always been my grail watch. No sub or Tudor is going to change the fact the I have never been interested in them. Regardless of their size. No matter the fad, season or trend will change the fact that.....

40 years from now my children will only have ever seen me wear my gold Rolex. Just as I only remember my father and his father wearing theirs. such as it goes on......

I always thought a DJ on jubilee looks great in 36, especially if worn a bit loose. If your wrist is 7.5 inches + though, maybe go bigger in my opinion.

That is a 36mm.

Because larger watches are the latest trend I assumed that others would think the 36mm dated and too small. I realize that I was falling into the trap of being enamored with larger watches. It didn't help that all my other watches are 40mm or bigger.

The 36mm has the classic look I love and I'm keeping it.

This has been a great discussion. Even though we all have different tastes and opinions its always nice to hear from other horologists that a watch you love is their favorite too and meets their approval.

The best looking watch, regardless of size, is the one that you are admiring on your wrist. It does not matter if it is 20mm or a grandfather clock on your wrist. It is your watch. Enjoy it! And ignore whether someone else feels the size is to big or to large. To each his own.
