Missing Warranty Card

Hi guys,

My dad has a Rolex that is still under warranty.

Basically the watch stopped moving and he needs to have it repaired.

The warranty card is in the box but he cannot find it.

He brought a copy of the receipt to the service center in Manila, but they insist he needs to bring the warranty card. The watch was bought in Belgium.

Does he really need the warranty card to claim the warranty? My understanding is that Rolex would know the details of that watch including the warranty. He is the first owner of the watch and it was bought from an AD.

Thank you for your help.

Does this mean he knows he had it but now cannot find it? Or was he never given it?

He had it. It was in the box when he bought it.

Did it buy it from an AD? My AD kept a copy of my warranty card if I ever lost it.

You still have to wind it, if it’s been sitting or the watch doesn’t get enough activity to keep it fully wound.

When I took my Explorer II to Rolex headquarters here in Canada (I bought the watch brand new from an AD) they asked me for my warranty card and they 'registered' the watch for me. She told me that I would no longer need to bring the warranty card as I was now in the system.

From this, my understanding, is that no, Rolex doesn't know who owns the watch from the AD until they see the watch AND the warranty card then they can register the watch to your name. The reason they want to see the warranty card the first time is because they want to ensure that I am the owner and they know when the warranty started. They had no interest in a sales receipt and I believe it is because they vary from AD to AD so it is difficult for them to authenticate.

The card itself says, "This guarentee is only valid if filled out and dated by the official Rolex retailer." Without the card, they don't if the warranty is valid.

Your Dad needs to find that card, or pay to have the watch fixed.

At least that is the best I can surmise.

Also, yes, try and give it a wind. We are all well aware that it is likely an automatic watch.

Wind it 40 times. Then tell us what happens ...

As an aside, an automatic watch needs to be wound if it has stopped moving after staying in one place for longer than it’s power reserve time.

My wife does the same thing when she borrows my car.

She puts it in P for power and the car won't move.

Yes he did. I messaged the AD if he has a copy of the warranty card but he never replied.

If this is true, Rolex really ought to come out of the stone age and figure out a better of way of authenticating the warranty. It seems ridiculous that an original owner who purchased through an AD, who has a good faith claim for warranty service on his watch, but is unable to locate a lousy piece of plastic, is suddenly on the hook for repairs that could cost hundreds or possibly thousands of dollars. In the age of digital communication and record-keeping, there is no good reason for this.

Good luck to your father, OP. I hope he can get this sorted out.

If the AD has a copy, that might be the simplest solution to your father's problem. So be persistent until you get a definitive answer. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Hi op.

Did you have a look for the card in the recess in the box lid?

Maybe he doesn’t know how to wind it.

Maybe try to bring it to an authorized dealer (rolex shop) to see if they can help first before pursuing the route to the service Centre. They might be able to help you.
