That would seem to be troubleshooting 101. OP, please inquire as to whether your father wound it, if only so you can say, "Yes, he wound it. Now please stop asking."

OP's response indicates he (or she) is not necessarily a WIS, but I don't see how he is any less deserving of our assistance. His join date shows he's not a regular here, and his post history makes it clear he signed up primarily to ask the question posed in this thread. It's a valid question, with a straightforward answer - either the card is required, or it isn't. Winding for the sake of troubleshooting is advisable, but I don't understand all the derisiveness here of someone simply seeking our help.

I agree with what you're saying here but if it's a simple matter of winding it he can stop looking for the card.

Absolutely, and some people in this thread are being helpful with the suggestion. Others are making fun of him. It's cool if the regulars poke fun at each other; that's part of the fun of this place. But people just coming here for assistance might not be looking for the full TRF experience.

Perhaps it will move if she shovels the snow out of the driveway

We just want him to answer if he's actually wound it...

From this, my understanding, is that no, Rolex doesn't know who owns the watch from the AD until they see the watch AND the warranty card then they can register the watch to your name. The reason they want to see the warranty card the first time is because they want to ensure that I am the owner and they know when the warranty started. They had no interest in a sales receipt and I believe it is because they vary from AD to AD so it is difficult for them to authenticate.

The card itself says, "This guarentee is only valid if filled out and dated by the official Rolex retailer." Without the card, they don't if the warranty is valid.

Your Dad needs to find that card, or pay to have the watch fixed.

At least that is the best I can surmise.

Also, yes, try and give it a wind. We are all well aware that it is likely an automatic watch.
My experience has been different. All of my current Rolex and Tudors were bought from my AD here in hk and I was never asked for my warranty card when I brought them in to RSC. The AD would swipe the card at the time of purchase and input my personal information into the system and is registered with Rolex. All I needed at the RSC was a photo ID to prove that I'm me.

Maybe this is somehow handled differently in other countries?

OP, seriously...the first thing to do to check on an automatic watch if it's stopped is to wind it. Unscrew the crown, turn the crown clockwise. After about 10-15 turns the watch should start if there's nothing wrong with the movement, sometimes a gentle shake of the watch helps get it going. If it starts, keep winding for another 20 turns or so to wind the mainspring to give it enough power and wear for 8 hours and see if it keeps going.

If you've done all that and it still wouldn't start, CALL the AD and forget about emailing since they seem to be ignoring your emails anyways. Get someone on the phone and talk to them and see if they can help.

Most likely wound and done lol.

Op they wont leave you alone until you let them hear what they want! You asked for suggestions and they gave you suggestions. Now its only fair for them to know if that helped. No shame in not winding a watch. Just let them know if that was the problem or not. Thanks!

My take on this. OP's dad lost the box. The box contains the warranty card and the user manual. So he can't refer to the latter to know how to wind the watch and set the date. This explains why he thinks he needs the former.

OP might want to show dad how to wind and set the watch. Screw down crowns are not obvious to the non initiated, assuming OP's dad isn't.
