It’s not the case size, it’s the extreme bracelet taper on modern models that don’t look right on 7.5+ wrists. That is why the SD43 rules supreme for us big wristers.

NO! The standard 39-40 is perfect for me! Hopefully Rolex leaves the GMT and Sub alone.

Nope, if anything the 40mm 6-digit sport references are too big on me!
Pre-ceramic 40mm is the sweet spot for me.

I like bigger watches and the DJII and new Sub design look right at home with my other 44mm watches on my wrist.

I never cared for “look at me” watches like some of the awkward looking clocks I’ve seen people wear. Whatever floats your boat though.

Why 6 months ago?

39mm has been a standard size since the late 80's. My first Swatch back in 1988 was a 39mm. My Swiss Army watch a couple years later also a 39mm. 34 and 36mm would be on the small side, even when I was a young teen in the mid 80's.

I think 40mm is not that big, it is average.

40MM is fine by me. I might try a 42MM but nothing larger than that.

I wish a 40mm didn't look lost on my wrist. I see all these great looking wrist shots of subs filling up the wrist. That's not the way a 40mm sub fits me. I had a no date sub c that just didn't look right. Moved up to a DSSD and now I have the same look the 40mm folks do.

That's exactly how I don'twant a watch to fit, which is why I wear 36mm. No reason to try and make my arm look small. I wish I had an 8" wrist, because a Sub looks great on a larger wrist.

It's the max for me. I was considering a 42mm Exp 2 but just didn't look right with the lugs almost sticking out on my 6.5" wrist. The 36mm DJ is probably the best "fitting" watch for me but I love wearing my 40mm sport Rolexes.

After getting used to my 41mm DJ2 I find a Sub too small. Instead I got a SD50th and its great!

Daytona, Submariners, GMT, YM and SD yes; 39mm OP and Explorer I's no.
The models without a chunky bezel appear and feel larger on my wrist than those with.
the low profile, 42mm 216570 is my perfect sized Rolex.

Are the standard 40mm Rolexs to small for you?

7.25-7.5’’ wrists here. I found that the five digit sub did seem a little bit dainty on my wrist however I find the new six digit references where more like a 42 mm, and the 43 mm SD43 is my sweet spot preferably. I think it is mostly a matter of preference though.

It’s not about other brands. The 36mm DJ and 40mm were the standard Rolex sizes for nearly 60 years, so the recent blip of people wanting larger Rolex watches may be short lasting until we return to the mean. We’re already seeing more guys buying 34mm-36mm around here these days.

In the ‘80s, collecting little vintage Rolex Bubblebacks became all the rage, until they weren’t.

The 40mm Rolex is my "benchmark" for size. I wear a 16610 as a daily beater and a white dial 116520 for special occasions. Both are just perfect!

i was talking about me personally.
6 months ago i was wearing vintage panerai 47mm. anything smaller felt and looked ridiculous.
Then someone lent me a 'little' 36mm explorer which felt way too small.
after a few days it felt great and everyone wearing larger watches looked silly (to me).

now i have an older submariner and am considering a datejust or explorer.

I have an 8" wrist and normally wear a SubC with the wider case and I initially thought even that was a bit small on me.
I'm waiting delivery on a second hand 16710 GMT and even though it's 40mm it has the slimmer case and I'm a bit concerned it will be too small.
I tried on a beautiful 36mm day date and I appreciate it's perfectly fine for most but sadly it looked comically small on me.

Anywhere from 40-42mm is perfect with my 7.5" wrist.

Just over 8" wrist. The SD43 is perfect for my taste. The sub is too small for me.

I have a DD40 as well but I'm OK with its size as its more of a dress v. a sports watch. If a 42mm DD came out, I would definitely add it to the collection. The 40mm probably wouldn't get nearly as much wrist time, though.

For me, 42mm is absolutely perfect. But I think anything between 40mm to 44mm looks good on my 8” wrist.

I have a flat 7" wrist. I don't think it's necessarily the mm that counts but the style of the model. I tried on a 42mm Exp.ll and it didn't look too big to me at all.
After wearing my SubC then putting my Milgauss on it appears small.

O, and one more afterthought, my Air King looks larger on my wrist than my Milgauss, l guess because of the dial.

The only people who should agree with your thread title, are guys with 7.75" wrists and larger (and even then they may like a 40mm). Most with this wrist size are burly guys as well, so I could definitely see them preferring something a bit larger.
