Dent repair on Submariner
I got a big dent on my 3 month old stainless steel submariner. I took it off to work on my laptop and it got knocked off the table. Any one know of a good way to get this fixed? I'm not looking to polish it, too much metal will be shaved off.
Any idea on how much I should pay to fix this? I plan to visit some local jewelers in the Bay Area but I know some can quote very high. |

Laser welding by Rolex could solve this problem I think. It will be pollished after that as well, but will look as new without material loss

In my opinion, change the case. Not sure how much would that be, but that is the best option if you are OCD. Should be SGD$1K+, I am not sure.

Change the case? Spend several thousand and have the watch devalued due to having a service case? OP RSC will fix this ...either NY or Dallas....they do have laser welders there.

No need of a new case IMHO just leave it till next service time, the high magnification make it look a lot worse than it actually is, plus the fact it's on the underside of the case.

Do nothing but wear your watch and enjoy it. Life happens. Unless you are looking down the road 40 yrs to having some "vintage collectable" the dent means nothing. If you actually use the watch for diving, have it pressure tested just to be on the safe side. Relax.

I'd leave it how it is. It gives the watch character.

Hi,
I once bought a second hand explorer 2 some two years ago which had one side of the crown guard severely shaved off. My AD sent it to Rolex Germany for laser welding and it came back as new. Costs were some 140 Euros. We have 19% VAT in Germany. So the AD made some money on this service request as well as Rolex. Having that in mind, the amount charged is rather low for the joy you get back, when seeing your watch flawless again. I can only assume that the expected costs at your location should be comparable. I'd like to think RSC would take the best option.
What did it hit by the way, and has the accuracy altered? |

Reason why in this instance is Rolex to protect themselves might require a full service and I’m not sure they laser weld so might only be able to offer a new case or polishing out the dent which might slightly hurt the overall profile. |

I feel for you, although knocks and scratches are inevitable over the life of the watch it's not nice when it's still practically brand new.
My advice before rushing into anything would be to live with it for a while. If on your left wrist the damage is in the one place you'll never notice while wearing.

Does RSC laser weld? Our local RSC doesnt. Claims it amounts to a modification which is not allowed. They only offered to check movement (if damaged by impact) and then polish.
Happened to my smurf. Had Michael Young fix it via laser weld. Am happy with result. |

Send it to LA watch werks, they will fix that right up. I’m ok living with scratches and small dings but that would bother me.

LAWW laser weld is the way to go.
RSC does not laser weld, period. Their M.O. is to replace with new, not fix. But you can not just request a replacement case from RSC, as it is up to their discretion and a case has to be really damaged before they replace it. |

Leave it as is and just enjoy the watch because next week there could be a new dent in the case as well and you have to start over again...

^^^Yup. As picky as Imcan be with my watches, a dent on the underside is left alone. You (or anyone) will never see it on the wrist.

I would just leave it as is. But if I were to fix it, I'd send/take it to LAWW, and not just some random jeweler.
