Removing tattoo to wear watch on left wrist

I've been wanting to do this for a while.

Looking for a solid place, with an actual surgeon who's an MD.

I don't like wearing my watch on the right wrist, but I hate to wear it on top of the tattoo.

Am I alone in thinking this is the right thing to do? Anyone here with experience getting ink off?

well, i can't help with body art removal but i have to ask; did you just get into watches and realized the art was big or did you wear on your right hand or something?

i'm not being facetious.

So recently I’ve been tracing my interest back to watches. When I was in primary school I already wore one. I think during the time I got the tattoo I was just not thinking about watches much.

Truth is, this was a mistake.

I'm not a proponent of tattoos, so I can understand the desire to have tattoos removed for a variety of reasons.

However, I don't think that there is a problem with wearing a watch over that tattoo.

There are lots of tattooed arms on this board and lots of pictures of watches on those arms.

So, my opinion is that unless you absolutely want the tattoo removed, I think you should leave it as is.

i'd have to agree with GP here.

i'd leave it.

thanks for offering the backstory.

I had a tattoo removed by laser, it took 11 monthly sessions.
It kills the pigment as well, the now clean skin looks more white.

Yours looks nice, just leave it imho

With two full sleeves I haven’t much choice!

I actually like the contrast of a watch against my tattooed skin.

However as my left arm work is getting on 15 years old it does need touching up.

If you want it gone for other reasons than whether it works congruously with a watch, then as already mentioned laser removal is the usual method used.

As you mention a surgeon in your OP, are you considering actual removal of the skin itself? I have seen this done before for a tattoo but can’t imagine anyone from a medical profession (I’m not) would recommend it given the position of it, and wrap-around placement.

So really if you want the inking gone regardless of watch wearing, then a decent laser place would be your best bet I expect.

Agreed. It would be laser. Just with an actual doctor.

Sounds like a very sensible move if you go ahead. Hopefully they would be an actual dermatologist too.

OP, make sure the Dr. you go to has the Picosure. Knocks out black ink in as little as 3 sessions. My wife and I have a ton of ink. She had something small, 95% taken out in 3. It's WAY better than the Qswitch most were using before.

Good to know . Did Qswitch back in 2002 and results were pretty average,I needed at least another couple of sessions to get it out 100% but it's been way too expensive.

Personally I think your case is tricky. Wearing a watch over a tattoo sleeve looks fine to me but yours is just a sort of a cuff, which probably looks weird with a watch over it.

I’m not a tattoo person but I don’t mind the look of yours. I’d probably wear the watch on the right and get used to it. Or remove it. Although you probably can’t wear a watch over it for a while till it fully heals.

It was indeed some 15 years ago, good to see this treatment has improved

I also heard that it essentially becomes a scar meaning you will not tan where you got the tattoo removed meaning in the summer months the skin will be blotchy? did you find any truth to this?

This is not true anymore, see above. Lasering has progressed, just like every other medical technology

Laser procedure would be more than sufficient. Despite being a knife-wielder, I do not recommend a surgeon do this. Dermatologist at most or good ‘aesthetician’ (or whichever title they prefer, sorry if off on it) would be better starting point.

Why a doctor? Some friends of me does this job to... Lasering is never a realy safe option as you damage the ink capsules under the skin while they explode and stream into the blood-stream.
Just leave your tattoo.... In a matter of years there could be another solution for removing tattoos.... Also you never know what type of ink is used for this actual tattoo, most shops use legal tattoo ink but some tattooers actually use PELICAN ink which is made for painting, it stays more black in the beginning but after a while it can turn green. You can't be sure of that……
O yes, i have 400 hours of tattooing on my body, and almost 100k..(I have only very high quality ink)) Although i sort of regret the money spend on these shit i have to live with it...
get over it... it is ur best beth.

tattoos are mainstream and as its only skin deep live with it, put the cost of removal towards another Rolex

I’ve had a tattoo removed due to my agency’s strict policy on visible tattoos. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

I’d not get rid of any of my tattoos.

And I have a lot.

Just wear the watch.

I'd leave the tattoo.

If it were of a Tasmanian devil holding a hockey stick (it's a douche-like Canadian thing I think) then for sure, burn that bitch off your wrist.

I have some tattoos and would only consider removing one of them. One on my ankle that was a kind of a mistake, plus it got messed up after a bicycle crash anyway but I'll just leave it I think. I'd rather put the funds toward another watch.

I don't think the tattoo affects the watch on your wrist but if you are bent on removing it, you could with the laser procedure with good doctor.

There's a company now that claims they can basically take off the top layer or two of skin that is tattooed and somehow stretch it an put it in a frame. They claim it is a way to remember your loved one when they are gone, as in dead.
I wouldn't recommend you do that, not now anyway.
