Which watch gets the most compliments?

Hi guys,

Just thought I'd ask, which watch do you get compliments the most? It's common to think that the pricier/rarer the watch the more compliments we get, but I'm finding that the inverse is actually true.

In my case, I have watches ranging from about $1,000-5,000 yet it's the watches on the "lower" end of the scale that get's the most compliments: my Breitling SuperOcean and Oris Artelier Skeleton. I have never received compliments about my Rolex watches except one time when my friends asked me why I was wearing a mid-sized watch (Air-King).

Anyway, I think it would be pretty interesting to hear your experiences regarding this matter.

regards,

lorsban

Good question.... My Corum Admiral's Cup gets the most compliments, but probably because it is 48mm and an odd combination: titanium and rose gold. It is the least expensive watch I own, so your synopsis is correct!

It's actually quite funny the noticeably different reactions I get when I wear my sub, as compared to those I receive when wearing the more pretentious day-dates.

When I'm wearing the sub it's not uncommon that i'll get a compliment like "nice watch" or even a question like "cool watch, what kind is it?".....in fact, it can be somewhat of a conversation piece at times, and people who even notice the watch in the first place, are not then afraid to let me know by either sharing a compliment or inquiring further if they are unsure of what kind or brand the watch is.

Now, on the otherhand, when I wear either of my day-dates, I notice alot more eyeballs fixated on my watch, but hardly anyone ever actually says anything...to ME. It's almost as if they are scared or intimidated to say anything. I'll even hear people talk amongst eachother about my watch, before I'll ever hear them squeek a peep to me.

I've received compliments when wearing anything with gold in it, but the AP gets the most attention.

My Tag Heuer "Steve McQueen" Monaco gets the most comments with my Tudor chrono second.

Comments and compliments are pretty rare, but my Panerai 233 gets one every now and then, especially from women.

Watch store owners notice the Lange and comment how much they like it, but no one else. Never even had a comment on the TT GMT-II, SS Daytona, 18K Blusey, VC OS or the Millie. Of course, that's fine with me.

Hands down my Panerai 233
The bands and always changing them really makes
it stand out.

Around my area the Rolex sports watches are a pretty common sight.

My Longines gets the most complements. I guess cause it is rose gold and has the complications on the dial.

Second would be my DD. I deal with a lot of customers who are also watch folk and some have complemented me on my latest DD, especially the pyramid dial.

Ulysse Nardin Maxi Diver

For me it is my Ulysse nardin Maxi Diver 43mm Rose Gold white face on the rubber and gold strap. It is a stunning watch but only has a niche following and therefore most people do not know what it is.

My sub gets noticed quite often on the Bond NATO; also my 16234 on the black crocodile strap seems to get comments every time I wear it.

I wear my Rolex's and nobody bats an eye at them, and I don't know if it is compliments, but my U Boat gets more comments than any other watch I have owned
