Rolex or any high end watch is a luxury item. Luxury items are not needed and have no correlation to the amount of money you make.

A better status symbol than a Rolex or high end watch is a paid off mortgage!

Most ordinary working guys I know have more than $15K tied up in a fishing boat, motor bike, 4WD or spend that every year on a holiday. As Blansky says, it's about priorities not income.

You can damn near add Starbucks to that list. Many people have more income than they realize. They also piss it off...more than they realize.

Exactly. A medium late is a little over $3.50, let's call it $4.00 with a small tip. So even if you skip 100 days a year of ordering your late, that's still over $1,000.00 per year. That could be your used Tudor!

Yep, the little stuff adds up.
I would watch some of my co-workers consuming a constant stream of Cokes, Cafe coffees, bought lunches, snacks etc.
Would have added up to a Submariner over the course of a year.
I cut out all that stuff when I was trying to raise two kids on a public-servant salary and consequently never missed it. Saved me a heap over 30 years.

I'll quit smoking cigarettes for a year to get my rolex, that's what I told myself. Was a year this December and I dont plan on going back. Packs are nearly $11 here, that twice a day. I'm not good with math but it really adds up in a year. Now cutting back on my 5 cups of coffee everyday.

I don't earn over £100K per year and I don't justify all purchases as a percentage of take home pay. It's a watch, not a sacred object nor something that can only be purchased by rich men who earn X amount of money.

Agree, agree.

I have friends who take home $50k and love the finer things. Single malt scotch, fine pens, fashion. They prioritize what they love and save to afford it. I’ve loved watches since undergrad and have adjusted my savings to reflect that. But what you love, as you can.
