There is too much self consciousness on this forum with relation to gold watches and what others think of them, or if they notice. Who cares? Whether a 10K SS watch, a 35K gold watch or a 75K platinum watch, they are all expensive. If one is so "worried" about offending others or being noticed, why even buy such a thing? And why come here on a forum where many spend more money on a watch than many make in a yearly salary?

No way. People couldn’t care less what you have on your wrist if anything. Now don’t get me wrong there are certain personality types that notice everything about everyone. You know the types. Busy bodies. Those are usually the people that gossip the most too. My step mom is like that. However past that most people are concerned with their own lives and most certainly don’t care about yours including your wardrobe including what watch you have on. You/we are just not that important to them.

Excellent point. People look will definitely notice what other people are driving a heck of a lot more than a watch. There are so many fake gold watches now that look exactly like the OP’s sub that nobody would notice.

Exactly.

Maybe it’s a part of the aging process, but I could care less if people notice what’s on my wrist, or whatever judgement they may have about it.

As you also mentioned, I find this exceptionally strange considering how much people like spend on their cars around here without a second thought.

Is gold really that “flashy”

No more ostentatious than someone tailgating me with their 80k Mercedes suv and their Mercedes emblem smack dab in the middle of my rear view mirror. People spend their money how they like, most will think it’s a fake and I’ll think their suv is leased.

Some will comment just to make you uncomfortable. (Think relating it to what other uses that money could go to)

Some will generally admire with or without a nod.

My (awesome) brother-in-law can’t fathom what I have on my wrist in comparison to what his financial situation is. He’s up to his neck in student debt, living with roommates, he’s 27. His snap judgement on the watch is exactly the same as everyone else, with varying results based on what THEY have going on.

Took me a while to understand this.

This definitely makes sense. I have noticed maybe just a handful of times where someone had seen my watch and noticeably turn away. Maybe it’s the fact that they can’t believe someone is wearing such an expensive watch when they are drowning in debt , or maybe like u said and i seem unapproachable to the average person

This being said is just my take on it, I like most of you don’t care at all what people think. It’s just interesting thinking of the mental mechanics of it.

@Bigblu10 I couldn’t agree more.

Gold is not flashy at all well not in NY anyways. All the gold chain whether real or fake plus the fashion watches are all in faux gold flood the streets. Only people who will notice it's a real gold watch are probably people who know watches. The average Joe and Jane will barely notice.

You'll attract a lot more attention with the vehicle you drive.

Yeap, I think the way you wear it and carry yourself. I saw an older gentleman with a gold 5711 during breakfast at our hotel, it looked amazing but he dressed normally and behaved like it was an Apple watch.
The three times I saw him at breakfast, I don't think I ever saw him even look at it once, he just sat calmly with his two teenagers and wife chilling.

While I've seen people in other situations with AP chronos act like super stars, YSL fanny pack, Phillip Plein sweat suit or a Versaci shirt with the attitude to match.

I mean don't get me wrong, a full yellow gold watch like a Sub is still a big gold watch, but how the person acts and what he wears also goes a long way in drawing attention to "it"....

Great watch and no one does YG on a bracelet better than Rolex. It may draw some attention but not like years ago when we did not have as many gold tone fashion watches. Someone that knows, will know. Other will just pass by. Enjoy your watch.

The funny thing I notice about lots of people on the forums is that they seem almost afraid of "flashy" There is way too much concern about the opinions of strangers who you don't even know and probably would never talk to.

If you like the bling and enjoy it, who cares what others think?

It depends on the company you keep... perhaps in your circle the gold Rolex is the slum piece .
In public, gold is pretty noticeable and attention grabbing. You need a few more links btw.

IMHO Invicta and Michael Kors have done a superb job of making people numb to seeing gold colored watches.

Ye here in nyc u see fold chains and bracelets and rings all day long. Everyone from high school kids to guys retiring. Most of them are gold plated so most people will just think it’s the same thing. When i would go out i used to let my Cuban hang out to match the watchl. Now i leave the Cuban in the safe and most days I just wear sweats and hang out at home with the wife and baby lol

I dont need a few more links btw. It has a glide lock and it’s in its tightest position and I like the watch snug on the wrist not rolling around but thanks for the input

I generally agree with this. My experiences:

99% of people that are strangers don't notice anything outside of themselves, especially now that people are glued to phone screens. Even before that, most people don't know or notice even though they are generally aware of the brand of Rolex.

Full gold Rolex in Las Vegas, South Florida, So Cal, nobody cares. It's a Toyota. Everybody has one or a more expensive one. The only watch comments I got on trips to these places was on a stainless Batman 2.0 GMT from acquaintances and friends who are into watches. They know it's rare and wanted to know how I got it They've seen me wearing gold, white gold etc. they don't care unless we are talking about something new that we got. They expect successful people to have nice watches.

People into watches will comment, ask questions, show you what they are wearing, what they'd like to get, etc. those are the fun parts.

It looks great and makes you happy so wear it as you please and enjoy it. You bought it for you.

A buddy told me this was flash the other day.

I admit it gives me pause. How we present ourselves is how people perceive us. But in the end, life is short. F it.

what's wrong with flashy? If you've got it flaunt it! What others think at the end of the day doesn't hurt you. I feel like this modern American culture of worry so much about being politically correct and what other think is so backwards. We should be promoting individuality and leading instead of following and hiding.
