Scuff mark on my cyclops 😢😢
Hello all....
Tonight I happened to look down at my watch, and noticed a mark across the Cyclops. Nothing I tried to do gets it off. What should I do? I thought the top was all Sapphire, and couldn't be scratched or smudged. Thank you. |

Common misconception, but sapphire can definitely scratch.

Diamond paste can remove light scratches from sapphire. You’ll have to research it here a bit because it’s been awhile since I’ve used it.

That scuff doesn’t look like a scratch - more like paint from a door jamb. Of course you may know better - I’m just judging from those pics.
Before doing anything aggressive with diamond paste, maybe try a quick dab of “goof-off” and a paper towel. That’ll dissolve paint but not harm sapphire. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Like mentioned earlier, it could be more a mar vs. scratch. I would try Flitz Polish for metal, plastic and fiberglass. I use this stuff all the time and it works a treat on various materials. Good luck. Cheers. -Norm

no sapphire crystal (mineral glass) is a 9 on the mohs scale. Flitz won't do anything. It's like chopping down a tree with a plastic spoon.

I don’t think Norm was literally meaning Flitz would remove a true scratch in the sapphire cyclops. I believe he mentioned a “mar” in the same vein as my comment.
That is, it might be some material that is on its surface from strong contact with a surface that transferred material which adhered to the cyclops. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Right, perhaps, I wasn't thorough enough in my response. It was a suggestion for use in the event it was not a scratch but paint residue from being brushed up against a wall like Paul mentioned. Cheers. -Norm

Right Paul. I probably should have been clearer in my response. Flitz is one of my goto products, does a super job brightening stainless steel and even used it to smooth out acrylic crystals. Cheers! -Norm
