16600

Hey guys, so my dad has a hardly worn 16600 from 1999 when he bought it and is willing to sell it to me for 5500. It has that "swiss something y" on the bottom rather than swiss made, if that makes any difference. So is that a good price? Thanks.

It may be has a Tritium dial, does it say SWISS -T<25 below the 6:00 marker? The price is OK, but it will most likely need a service, so plan for another $500 - $750.

Apologies. It's the indication for the use of tritium in it. But here it is

You think it needs to be serviced? That's what I was wondering too.. It has hardly been used throughout the years. Only to parties and trips. But not every day use.

If you plan to swim with it (especially in salt water), at the very least have it pressure tested. but after 19 years, yeah, I think its probably due.

If it’s your dads and he bought it new, 5,500 is a great deal. I would have no issue paying that for that watch. Search 16600 in the for sale forum here and they are up over 7k for complete sets. Bonus because it’s one of my favorite references.

On a side note, if I were your Dad I would make you come up with the cash and once you presented it to me I would give you the watch and tell you to keep the cash.

Good response.. I would be giving my son my Rolex, I wouldn't take money from my boy.

Agreed. I would give this watch to my son. That way it would be worth more from a sentimental point also and not just a business deal.

I wouldn't make presumptions on why a father is asking a son to pay for something. So many possible considerations.

I agree. Beautiful watch and a great deal. If I were going to part with the watch I'd do the same, raising the funds shows that he cares and is sincerely vested in the watch. Then I'd just give it to my son.
But who knows why dad is "selling" it. We don't have all the details, health expenses or something else. Overall though, regardless, the great thing is that it stays in the family.

Agreed nobody knows the circumstances why the father is selling the watch. Perhaps he does need the money. Either way if the SD can stay in the family that’ll be a win. It’s one of my favourite references.

True, I have no idea their family dynamic, my dad was my best friend but he didn’t give me anything either (made me work for it). The OP says his dad is “willing” to sell it which to me would mean he doesn’t have to or need to. English is a funny language but if his dad had to sell it I think the sentence would be worded differently.

Let’s see some more pics! Is it a complete set?
