Omega Discounts
I tried to sell a few Omegas on eBay recently (Planet Oceans) and was pretty underwhelmed with the market value.
I think my problem was that I paid RRP from an Omega Boutique but all the buyers assured me they could easy get 20 or 25 per cent discount from another store. Is it true? |

yes. it is a sad state, but paying retail is a losing game with Omega.
I only buy at the boutique. They take good care of me, but there is only so much they can do. I do prefer buying there though, even at a loss. Because the peace of mind helps. AND, they have gotten me hard to get watches and take super care of me in a lot of ways.

All watches apart from some Rolex's and Patek's and a few others can be bought discounted.
The Richemont group spent $220mm last year buying back watches from dealers to prevent price crashing The luxury watch market is over supplied and over hyped and the retail prices are mostly inflated Buy what you like and plan to keep forever. Then you are never disappointed ..... |

Yes, getting 25-30% off MSRP from an Omega AD is very easy to do. I've never paid any more than 25% off retail for an Omega and never had to go grey market to do it.

And then they offered me to take any of their leather goods at no cost. I got a really nice wallet and gave it to my office manager. Made her day.

From outer London possibly up to 10% if a watch is not moving. From importers from the EU you can sometimes get up to 15%. 20% or higher is reserved for watches that are simply not popular where stock has built up. As the UK, due to the currency fall, is one of the, if not the cheapest places to currently buy watches, perhaps the discount level reflects that |

Very few watches are worth more then 50% the day after sale, many much less then that. I'd say Omega is better then most.
Anyone thinking that a watch is an investment are deluding themselves. Even Rolex SS models resale are based on Rolex production and the Chinese economy. There is no shortage, just go into any second hand watch shop in London and they are loaded with subs and daytonas. Any economic downturn or change in fashion (in the 1980s bi-metal and yellow gold watches were cool!) and their value is toast Therefore think of the discount as a money saving. Not a boost to resale My 2 cents |
