Rolex Yachtmaster Ref 116622
Hi everyone,
I was looking for a TT Sub and couldn’t be able to decide whether it’s good choice or no. I believe because of my small wrist, the Sub models in general shows to bulky in my hand. I also looked at the Rolex Yachtmaster 116622 at the Rolex Boutique and figured that’s it’s thinner and more luxurious than Sub. What do you guys think? Is this watch a good choice for every day use? Thank you in advance. |

The Y-M is a much flashier watch than the Sub, owing to its fully polished case, polished center links on the bracelet, metal bezel insert, and colorful dials (depending on dial choice). The platinum bezel is also prone to scuffs over time, so it shows wear more readily than the ceramic on the Sub. Personally, I think it's a great watch as a supplement to an existing collection. As a daily, it wouldn't be my first choice, but that's really down to personal preference.
Edit: just saw you were talking about a TT Sub. Sorry - I was thinking the SS Sub. I still think the Y-M is more flashy, but the difference is narrower. If you would be comfortable wearing a TT Sub as a daily (especially a blue one), then you might feel comfortable with the Y-M. |

I just picked up the YM with rhodium dial as a everyday watch. I'm loving it.. Not too flashy but still noticeable and not as common as the Sub or GMT.
I also have the GMT 2 and DJ2 but really liking my YM alot. |

Had mine for 5 years, wear it every day. I put a lot of miles & scratches on it, here's what it looks like (pic is 10 minutes old)

The Y-M is a great choice! Looks much less boxy with the curved lugs

The YM is more classy than the Submariner and wears a lot more comfortable

My YM is my daily. And I own the SubC as well. YM is way more comfortable than the SubC. Although, it will definitely pick up light swirls on the polished bits no matter how careful you are.

I really enjoy my YM (rhodium dial) and wear it often. It is a complement to my collection but I could easily wear it daily. As always, the PCL pick up scratches but you get over it.

I love my YM and when I bought it, I bought it to be my one Rolex. It's gorgeous, dresses up or down and much less common.
Despite its luxurious looks, it's very subtle and can be under the radar.

Wears a bit smaller than the SUBC and the platinum sandblasted bezel is rather luxurious too, plus has the nice blue and rhodium options.

My unattainable grail since 2003 or thereabouts, so much so I had forgotten about it (the 1998 "Rolesium" forefather ref 16622).
Then the updated 116622 came up at BaselWorld 2012 and I got hooked again. I managed to acquire one eventually thanks to its lack of popularity next to the Sub and subsequent attractive discount (times have changed since). Beautifully proportioned, elegant case and sexy curved lugs, not too light not too heavy, mirror polish looks sublime. I wear it with anything, jeans and t-shirt, shorts, chinos, even a suit (although a dress watch is a better match IMHO). The rhodium and especially the blue dial offer more contrast than the platinum dial. They also add a sunburst effect if that's your thing, although to me the essence of the Rolesium concept gets a bit lost with these latest arrivals. It's a super cool piece because it has an understated elegance about it. It's not trying too hard to impress. It's not flashy (at least the plat. sandblasted dial), not rough around the edges like a toolwatch can be (Sub's supercase, SD43's sharp bezel, DSSD's girth), but instead gently sparkles and politely introduces itself before your eyes. It's so very couth. Sitting between divers and dress watches, the Yacht-Master really ties the collection together. I think the Dude would approve. |
