Polished my Bluesy with Cape Cod tonight

This stuff is awesome! It took out the entire years worth of wear, micro scratches, and general dullness of the gold and stainless in about 1 hour of work including masking the brushed sections. I wasn’t entirely happy with the rush job polish Beckertime did on the watch when I got it. Lots of directional scratches in the polish on the sides of the bracelet links and some on the case. All of those are gone and it looks better than when I got it. I used a dry silver polish cloth on the top of the bezel to polish the gold though to avoid wetting the bezel insert with mineral spirits. Also avoided polishing the brushed sides of the bezel. I re brushed those last year after finding some spots had been hit during the original lazy polish job.

This Cape Cod polish is interesting. It appears to be an abrasive cloth with a mineral spirit base. I don’t think there’s any “compound” left exactly after polish. Just residual petroleum distillates to remove with soap and water after a final polish with their buffing cloth. Really cool and very easy to use! I like it!

Brave man! I wouldn't let myself within two continents of my watches with that stuff.

Looks like you've done a great job.

Looks great

I'd happily do the same and such products are great for this, but be prepared for hoards of posters "berating" you for "ruining" your watch by polishing it and removing too much material, etc, etc ....blah...blah...blah...

There was a thread a while back where someone rounded the edges of their center links with the stuff. Be careful!!!

I think you have done a god job at polishing.

I choose not to polish for various personal reasons...

Just remember that you can't put what's taken off so take it easy with that stuff. I stopped using it as I prefer the patina from wear.

Looks great. This is exactly what I did to my Bluesy for 18 years. I would give it a quick polish every 6 months to keep it looking new. After 18 years the lines were sharp and when Rikki serviced it commented on its pristine condition and he had to do very little polishing. All you need is very light buffing motion. Even with 18k gold, the only way you can take too much metal off would be pushing as hard as you can while buffing for hours at a time. A Cape Cod cloth is a very easy tool to use.

Worrying about taking too much metal off with a Cape Cod cloth is like not painting your room because it makes it slightly smaller to live in.

A cape cod will never round the metal or take off too much metal unless you are using a dremel to it or something. Its almost impossible to do with your bare hands.

Using your fingers and cape cod you can get amazing results with ZERO damage to your watch. Its a very simple thing to use.

Lovely!

I used to polish my center links about once a month on my bluesy. Tape up the brushed sections, polish for a few minutes, clean with soap and water and dry. Total effort took me no more than 10 minutes, tops. I imagine you guys that spend hours doing this are the ones that need to worry about softening the edges.

I suppose I didn't need to take that much time but that included removing the bracelet, masking, polishing, cleaning, and re installing the bracelet. I took my time but it could be done faster. I can't see how anyone could screw this up. Maybe if they went crazy and polished the brushed sections. Even still that's easily brushed back out. For reference, it took about 5 minutes of polishing to get the marks out of the link from the clasp coming back and contacting it this year. This was from unbuckling. I suspect all of us with a sub would have this mark. If the polishing cloth supplied is used, there's nothing to be afraid of in my opinion. If a compound and a buffing wheel of sorts is used, you could have a problem. A buffing wheel will never touch my watches since I've picked them up

Works well but less is more when it comes to the pressure you apply. Also, use some painter's tape to cover the brushed links too. IMHO
