40 for me! The trend is bigger not smaller dials! Even ladies are now moving to the 40mm dials
I have a 7.6” wrist and wouldn’t be able to pull a 36! 40 is the minimum for me!

Best balanced watch ever made is the 36 Day Date on a President

36mm is a great size for a 6.5 inch wrist and you will save a huge amount of money on a
used but current model.

Indeed. Fantastic value there. The 36mm is a classic. 40mm, while beautiful, is the current vogue. I think it looks comical on my puny 6.5” wrist.

Around 36mm for DJ/DD and around 40mm for the sports watches was the norm for decades, which made sense, because they all had about the same dial size, give or take, with the main difference being in the bezel size (and case supporting it.)

I'm 6'2" with a 7" wrist, and I still prefer the sport watches in 40mm and the DJ/DD in 36mm. FWIW, I'm a youngish looking guy who dresses casually and has tattoos, etc., so it's not just the opinion of the older guys around here. I prefer the more retro/vintage vibe, but it's just a matter of style.

I know this isn't the watch in question, but it's 36mm, and I love the classic proportions.

I'm 5'6", aka short, and my wrists are not large...but I am so used to wearing 40-42mm that the DD36 just seems tiny on me. I think it's all about wearer comfort - are you more inclined to wear 40 than a 36, for any watch? Then I would go with the 40.

I tried on both this weekend, with my eye on the 40 but just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything with the 36, and man, did that 36 look incredibly small. It works for others, just not for me!

It's funny you say that, because I happen to feel the opposite. I don't view all watches the same, and I think it's odd when a DJ style watch is the same size as a dive watch. I'm cool with Subs at 40mm, Speedmasters at 42mm, etc., but a plain bezel watch like a DJ/DD at those sizes seems too large to me. I have a first-gen 39mm Aqua Terra that seems larger than my Sub, because it is all dial. My 36mm DD looks more similar to my Sub, to me, because the dials are the same size.

This is my YG DD40 on my 6.5 inch wrist perfect size. The 36mm is way too small imho it looked tiny on my wrist when I was trying them on.

40 imho is too big for a 6.5" wrist. I think you need a 7.25 to carry the 40

Ultimately, only you can decide what feels and/or looks better on your wrist. For what its worth, I bought a YG DDII 3 years ago. I tried the 36mm, and it just felt too small for me, probably because I was wearing a DJII regularly at the time, which is also 41mm. I have a 7 inch wrist.

To me, 36 is classy and will withstand the big dial trend. The DD is a forever watch.

^ Problem with that example is there was NO option for a larger DD back then.

100% if Suge was looking for a watch now it would be a 40mm.

That has nothing to do with him being able to wear a 36mm watch. Of course he likely would wear a bigger watch now but he was able to wear a 36mm at the time. If he can anyone can.
