Good excuse. I’ve always wanted to dive with the whale sharks off the west coast.

Sadly no news. The message I received that I would have the watch in two weeks, which I received three weeks ago now must have been false. Sorry to say, I will just go back to giving him his space and time and hope I have this back before the end of the year. I someone told me in March I would still be waiting on this I wouldnt have believed them.

Seriously?! It“s a watch. Not a spaceshuttle! He can assemble the movement and the rest of the watch in less than a work day.

This is not acceptable. He said two weeks three weeks ago? At least he could send you a message telling you he needs more time.

I know, people here have messaged me and told me this is normal in the industry for some watch makers. Seems strange when in 2020 a country bumkin like me can verbally dictate an email and send it. A small update isnt unreasonable.

Yeah. Really strange. I had a complicated vintage Speedmaster which took 3 months for the watchmaker to complete but mostly due to difficulties in sourcing a set of nice used hands.

Give him a call perhaps? Be nice and polite :)

Agree. Start asking questions. He's had enough time and space.

Yeah, I failed to note I stayed on my guy. Once he’s a bit past the quote date, no harm in asking for an update.

Hi, no nothing. Not sure why I was told it would be only two more weeks. I will keep you posted. I did contact him and I didnt receive a response, so hopefully I have my watch back this year but I am starting to lose hope that will happen. I was really hoping to be wearing it at Christmas.

Have you tried calling? I think it’s gone past the point of just sending a text and waiting

Well the bracelet will be back shortly, so at least I can post some photos of that hopefully. It hasnt been seen in its intact state since the late 70's. After a service in the mid 80's the watch was fitted with a Rolex 78360 bracelet. I still have that here also. This watch must have had three bracelets in its lifetime. I think the original one from the 60's is around somewhere, I swear I saw parts for it about 20 years ago.

Like others, been reviewing this thread with interest. I think you need to escalate this. Agree first thing is to call. Replying to an email, should be no big deal, if a deadline has elapsed by weeks. So they are taking the piss. Who referred you to the repairer, are they local to them? I take it you've photo's of all the serial numbers etc.

No answer is my answer. I am chatting to another client and he is experiencing the same difficulties. However, before we all freak out, I am not overly worried. This has not been a normal year and I did only hear from him a month ago.

The funny thing is I think the bracelet will be here first. It was the last item by half a year or more I consider or was even aware could be restored. So I will have that to look at while I am waiting.

I look at it this way, the watch could have been quite easily lost or thrown out over the past few years as we have been doing a huge amount of cleaning up. So the fact I found the watch first and then went looking for the box etc second is just luck. I think if I had found the empty box first at that stage when I knew nothing about Rolex's, I would have binned it for sure.

So my point is, the payout of aworking Rolex at the end of all of this makes me quite calm about the delays. I feel quite fortunate everyday while awaiting its return to our family.

Hi Filipao! Yes the endlinks were in the box with the other pieces, 280 or 380? I cant remember before I posted them, but they are the ones which were on the watch, one was a bit dented, so I hope that can be repaired.

None of us really know what kind of workload this particular watchmaker has, so giving him the benefit of the doubt is all we can do. And according to the OP, this person came with a positive recommendation.

However, ignoring inquiries regarding a very expensive heirloom watch would bother the hell out of me.

Side note, I have a local watchmaker that serviced my wife's Tissot (Automatic) in one week. He kept me updated through the entire process with pictures via text.

If it was me, I would probably be a bit more aggressive.

Regardless, Good Luck.

Michael is the one who has restored the bracelet, not the watchmaker.

Sounds like progress!

Does the rest of your family know about the watch?
