I never understood the hype about the Explorer I until I got one. I understand now - it is the perfect watch.

Never sell a Rolex unless you are going PP/Lange. I might trade in my Tudor Prince for Rolex DD 40 when i am ready.

Well sold my Explorer 214270 MKI and have no regrets as disliked its proportions (prefer the 36 mm size 1016 / 14270 / 114270).

Had the 114270 twice after the 214270; regretted selling the first one and got a second one, which later partially funded my current 18239 DD, so from that respect no regrets on selling it

In a recent thread called “the most perfect Rolex ever” Explorer 1 was way up on the perfect list. I haven’t owned one but I can see why it is so highly rated.

At least it's not a painting by Pablo Picasso. :) If you sold one, it would be really hard to replace. :) Fortunately, Explorer I is a little easier to get.

It is the perfect watch. Looks great in shorts and a t-shirt. Looks great with my tux.
I had narrowed it down to a BLNR or the Explorer. This was before the world went mad and you could find both of these at an AD. The Explorer's simple elegance won out.
And it was a gift so I'll never sell it.

It used to be, not so easy to get hold of these days unfortunately

I say this as someone that is on ‘the list’ for one

If you need it really bad or miss it so much, you can buy new on grey market ($2k above MSRP) or buy pre-owned for about MSRP. So much speculation with Rolex professional watches. People buy them to flip and it makes the shortage worse.

Sold my 114060 (first Rolex)
Missed it, bought a new one a couple years later.

Sold my 116610LV
Missed it, bought a slightly used, and at that time like 1k over retail.

Conclusion. Never sell a Rolex

Having owned all modern Rolex besides the Daytona, can confirm it is at least second place (and most likely first)!

Been waiting for 2 months for my explorer 1, hoping I get the call sooner or later. They are not easy to come by

That’s true, although I can’t get myself to pay above retail nor do I want to buy one second hand

I’m fine with waiting to get the watch that I want

Yeah been there. I’ve had a Exp 214270 3-4 different times.

Own it-Hardly wear it-Sell it-Miss it-Buy another

Repeat

Repeat

Repeat

Something about this model. Never ever done this with any other model

I agree with you. I had the mk1 twice and the short hands bothered me. When the mk2 came out I loved the changes they made and thought it was the perfect watch. I was in my local AD a couple of weeks ago and they just got one in. It took me about 2 seconds to decide on it and I couldn't be happier. I'll never part with it. The mk2 is just perfect.

Interestingly I've been trending towards larger watches the last couple of years. 42mm Explorer II, I've been thinking about a two tone Sea-Dweller. But the 39mm Explorer has me really re-thinking what size I prefer. 39 just seems so perfect now.

Been there before. I sold my explorer and will likely get another one in the next few months. It’s a really great watch.

I sold the MK1 a few years ago and the MK2 recently after I received my OP41. Without any doubt one of the more versatile Rolex watches but on the other hand also one the more boring ones too IMHO. Love it on the photos and the idea behind it but finally it didn't get enough wristtime.
On my 7.25" it feels and looks a bit small also (under normal angles in the wild) although on the photos it looks very nice...

Sold mine a couple of months ago, and deeply regret it - want another one and been hounding AD's for the last few weeks - need a 39 Explorer in my life again...

Been thinking of selling mine for some time. I have the t rex stubby hands version. But as I don't need the cash, and after reading this post, I'll probably just keep it.

Was going to sell the explorer or the black face non gv milgauss. Likely will just hold onto both.

No big drama, we all make mistakes.
Re-purchase it ASAP as prices are only going one way
