No Date Submariner Is The Perfect Watch

Hey Guys,

I haven't been here in awhile. I'm nearing my 2 year anniversary of owning my 114060 and maybe I'm bored. Maybe it's the Corryvreckan. I dunno. But tonight I just felt an intense surge of affection looking at this watch on my wrist and am compelled to post here.

I remember when I truly fell in love with it. I was staying at my ex's for what would be a jammed packed weekend last summer. We went hiking, went to a wedding, went bar hopping, fixed a fence, ran errands and did a ton of swimming. It was Sunday afternoon in her pool and I realized that my watch hadn't left my wrist once. It didn't skip a beat and fit perfectly in every one of the aforementioned situations. From that moment on any desire to build a collection disappeared. I had the one and only watch I'd ever want or need.

I used to stress about dings and abrasions but not anymore. That's not what this watch is about. This watch is about beauty and durability. Function and fun. I can't wait to age along side it.

Thanks for listening fam,

Balldaddy

Agreed. It tells the time, looks amazing, built like a tank, and has a practical and useful timing function.

No matter what watch I buy in the future, I know I have the perfect watch in my collection already.

i like it a lot. Dates are non preferred for me and if a watch has one i really dislike a cyclops. Clearly not a deal breaker as i have several, but IMO the watch would look better without a big bubble on the crystal.

I like the no date more...but i barely wear it anymore since my pepsi came in. Might have to sell it when my other watches come in.

I really like the 114060. It was and maybe is my favorite SS Submariner. I currently own the SD43 and being a larger person it works great for me. Is it worth almost twice what the ND Submariner is, don't know. But Rolex has hit a classic design element in the divers that seems to transcend generations.

my biggest gripe with chronographs in particular is the awful way they have to squeeze in a date. 3 sub dial chronographs in particular. Its just not nice looking.

Minus maybe a datograph i cant think of a chronograph where a date window enhances the design. 2 subdial watches with a date at 6 is passable, but 3 subdial with a date at 4:30, no

Yes...a great watch! Love it! I’d prefer a date, but it’s not mandatory.

I share a similar sentiment. I did get used to a non date piece. The no date version was my first luxury piece. I wanted a Sub in its original form. I knew I would be adding more pieces with a date later.

Thanks for sharing your passion about this watch! I, too, often write posts after a few drams of good whisky!
The 114060 would also be my choice for a Sub. Currently, all of my watches have no date functions, so this would fit right in.
I love the idea of having, and being loyal to, only one watch. Don't know if I could do that, but a 114060 does seem like the way to go.
Maybe I should try the Corryvreckan at some point. Love the Ardbeg 10, and have not yet ventured further with the brand. My favorite peated is still Laphroaig, though.

If you love the Ardbeg 10 you'll love the Uigeadail and Corryvreckan. Two of the best NAS whiskies out today. Both are great but I give a slight edge to the oogie. Go pick up one or both immediately and you'll never pick up a Laphroaig again . Keep in mind since they're above 50% alcohol you might want to dilute your dram with water.

A lot of folks only use their watch to tell the date. Most everyone generally knows or senses the time (clocks are everywhere) but they constantly look to their watch to see the date. When I write checks, I look at my watch for the date for each check. When you have a date complication your mind quickly becomes very dependent upon it.

Maybe that's your personal preference, but to make a blanket statement that all watches should have a date function is just ridiculous.
