So I think I'm ready to buy a Daytona YG with Oysterflex 116519LN.

Here are some questions...
1) I've never tried on a Daytona and nobody local would have one to do so. My wrist is 7.5" circumference. If I'm ok with recent Submariner models, should the Daytona with Oysterflex be ok?

2) Where to buy. My local AD, who I'm guessing hasn't sold a lot of Daytonas, said she can get me this watch in 2-3 months. She said the same about a SS Submariner when I asked. I have purchased a couple of Rolexes from them and a fair amount of other jewelry, so we have a nice relationship. But they don't often have the higher end Rolexes in stock, so I'm not sure how valuable furthering the relationship with them would be.

Any feedback is appreciated!
Okay, here's mine:

That would be the 116518LN you're looking for, right? As to 1), I'm sure you're fine in terms of size. However, if you haven't tried on an Oysterflex bracelet, you definitely should to determine if you like the feel of it.

As to 2), I don't understand your reasoning at all. Your AD's salesperson said she'll get it for you in a fex months' time. Where seems to be the problem? Too little hassle? If she gets that watch for you, that relationship has already proven pretty valuable, no?

Cheers
Marc

If you don't like it, move it. No idea what the future value will bring.

Official Daytona on Oysterflex Owner's Thread

Well not official, just a hobbled together one off. Pretty comfortable watch/strap combination. Don’t exile me for being unofficial.

Hi Lee, what end links are you using for this configuration? And what brand is the rubber strap - Everest?

Thanks.

They are SmartyJones end links. They work well enough. If you are lucky enough to own a Platona it is almost impossible to find "name" straps to pair with it that will work with either the standard Rolex clasp or even a Glidelock. In my case I was able to find less expensive "oysterflex" straps (as in order($) of magnitude less) that do the job satisfactorily. I also bought a Rolex clasp that isn't Pt to go with the strap and allow a satisfactory strap experience for the Platona. It works a great combination and will result in much more wear time for the watch. I'm open to other straps and could/would up grade if anything ever becomes available. FWIW, I've also a brown strap which I'll fit at some point. I really like the way the blue looks however.

When I first saw this one, my jaw dropped!
I could neither take my mind off of it nor resist buying it either.
I had to get it on my wrist. If it's not THE nicest looking Daytona, it's
surely one of the best ones.

Anyone removed the fins? How is it without the fins? I think they're uncomfortable and I am considering cutting them off.

This seems like crazy talk. The fins are where the comfort magic happens imho

Perhaps you have it sized too small?

It's not too snug, but the fins leaves a mark in my arm. Maybe it's because of my hairy arm, but when I move the watch, the fins are sharp and uncomfortable. If I wear it more loose the watch will just drift off to the 12 o'clock side. And that's bothersome as well :) if I leave it in one place and don't move it, it's ok. But I'm used to slide the watches a bit back and forth with my bracelet watches.

Please accept my apology for my initial post which might not have been as helpful as it could have been.

I feel that if the fins are consistently leaving a mark on your wrist that it might be sized a little too tight (maybe one micro-adjustment in the clasp). I only experience the fin marks on my skin when my wrist expands and I haven’t yet popped open the ez link.

An alternative to cutting the fins, might be to try a rubber b strap that is made for the oysterflex models. It will size the same, but made without the fins.

I envision that it would be difficult to cut the fins perfectly so that there is nothing to be felt on the inside which is why I recommend the rubber b option.

Good luck!

Looking at the Rolex US site, it seems I can't find the "plain" dial WG OF Daytona listed. Seems to only have the Meteorite dial. Is that so? TIA

Incredible pieces here! I'm still on the edge about the Steel dial, just can't bring myself to pay grey prices. Thought I had a way through an AD but looks like it won't materialize. I keep an eye on some grey dealers' websites though. I just saw one that had a rose gold Chocolate dial and it sold within hours (listed for $51,5k). Is it that coveted?

What did you trade for it?

Very curious on the outcome.

Thinking about selling my 116500ln white dial and Kermit. Then putting the cash to get one of these from my AD.
