I never really liked the fluted bezel or for that matter the jubilee bracelet.
Then I saw a girl on holiday wearing a blue datejust fluted/ jubilee. It looked great in the sunlight.
I’d still probably pick the smooth bezel though. Feels more like a functional sports watch that way.

This video by Hafiz is an excellent example of the dimensions. The 30 mm dial size of a DJ 36 is the same as the dial size of a submariner or YM 40. The bezel width being the differentiator. The large 32 mm dial of the DJ 41 is why I find it looks massive on my 6.5 inch wrist, whereas I have no issues with a submariner or YM 40.

Yes it is.

For your wrist size, and especially if you’re considering a white dial, I’d suggest you try the 36mm. The 41 DJ in a white dial will appear larger than the sub due to the dial in fact being larger and also appearing even larger due to the light dial.

If you’re looking for a sporty look, I’d suggest smooth bezel/oyster bracelet. I personally much prefer the fluted/jubilee combo but it won’t look as sporty as the oyster/smooth.

I find that below a 7’’ wrist, the 41mm starts looking too big. A sub is fine when it looks a little big….but DJs get a department store watch vibe when worn oversized imo.

Like I said, I tried a DJ-36 (white dial and diamond bezel) and I found it too small and did not like it at all. Maybe because I am used to big watches like SubC and Cartier Santos Large.

Unfortunately, the 2 AD that I visited had no display model at all.

Gotcha.

If you like them to fit a bit bigger on your 6.5 wrist, then you’ll love the DJ41.

Own and enjoy both fluted and smooth bezels. The fluted is a bit fancier, and the smooth is a bit more sporty. Love both.

Here is my white dial DJ41.

Did you buy the part through the AD or where? I’ve been considering swapping the machined bezel on my 5-digit DJ for fluted

Picked it off a reputable dealer off eBay ..cost me 850...that was the cheapest around .. keeping the smooth so when I ever decide to trade up or sell I can swap back if I need too ..since ref number dont match with it being a fluted bezel

You mean to say the fluted weighs noticeably more than the smooth bezel? Interesting.

I prefer the fluted too and that is what I have on my DJ41.

Yes the weight is really noticable with the white gold bezel ..funny cause I think the oyster fluted combo go well together, so I'm definitely happy changing it out

I like both
buth on jubilee I prefer fluted
on oyster bracelets, I prefer smooth
two examples of the "same watch" (wimbledon -although one is a TT)
in the two combos fluted+jubilee and smooth+oyster

Always go fluted. The real debate is jubilee or oyster

Jubilee was originally created for Datejust, wasn’t it? so I think jubilee is a natural choice.

Whatever the case may be, I prefer my Sports watches on Oyster and Datejust on Jubilee. Not that Datejust is not a sport watch. But an elegant sport watch if I may put it.

I have a 6.5 inch wrist and wouldn't consider a 41. The watch is basically all dial, a light dial will emphasize that even more. As others have already pointed out, it will wear considerably larger than a Sub, because the dial is in fact larger. Have you tried a 36 yet? They wear exceptionally well.
