Considering moving 126613 for PM

Ive got a 114060 in the safe, bought it at my AD in 2017 right before things got goofy. It will never leave. Obviously it's a full set, my name on the card etc. Late last year I stumbled on a good deal on a 126613LN. It's a beautiful piece and has gotten a ton of wrist time since acquiring it. As nice a watch as it is I am considering moving it to help fund a Day-Date. As I have said in threads earlier this week I prefer the Day-Date in the classic 36mm size. Moving the 126613LN just seems more logical as it doesn't have my name on the card and wasn't bought by me at the AD. the Day-Date I am looking at is most likely an 18038 or 18238. Sure the six digits are heavier but I'm not after weight. Since my 126613 is a full set in excellent condition any Day-Date I purchase will have to be the same. Only draw back I am having trouble with is going from a watch made in 2020 to potentially a watch made circa 1990. Your thoughts or input is welcome and appreciated......

I love the Day-Date and would go with the 18238 for the double quick set.

I would move them both.

You’re ready to graduate from simple subs. But if the 114060 is special to you bc it was your first then, yeah keep.

I would rather go for new Day Date at the boutiques/ADs at MSRP and sell your TT Sub later.

Try to find one to try on. You will still have the modern sub. I would view the older day date as a definite upgrade over the modern 2tone sub. 36 is a perfect size for most people.

I know you mentioned you’d never sell it… but I’d personally sell the watch I wasn’t wearing (the 114060) in your position.

Definitely try on the watches you’re considering before purchasing. The fit and finish of a few aspects are not on the same level as your modern pieces, but they’re still lovely watches.

You can always get a modern Day-Date in 36mm…

It depends on why you want it I suppose. If you want to just show off, the day-date probably accomplishes that even better than the blue two-tone sub.

But if you appreciate watches for the small details, I think you will be disappointed by the older day-date, unless you really love retro. You have to appreciate outdated aesthetics and antiquated technology 'just because.' Personally I have much more modern tastes and a lot of things about the 18238 and 18038 I used to own bugged me. The yellowed datewheel, the friction fit clasp that comes undone with a strong flick of the wrist, the weird old font on the date wheel, the knowledge that the hollow center links will wear faster than solid center links would have. Also it's gonna be very hard to find a crisp fluted bezel, and very hard to find a bracelet that isn't worn to a moderate degree. Lume pips will be dead and likely yellowed.

If you want a daydate, I very strongly advise a 6-digit with a modern clasp! The "fat clasp" as they call it.

Also, I LOVE the modern blue two-tone sub. Sounds like you do too. For me, going to a 18238 from your watch would be a significant downgrade aesthetically and technologically. The feel and construction just isn't as reassuring nor as robust as the modern rolexes to which you've now become accustomed.

Over my years of watch collecting, I slowly transitioned from being just all about the sports watches to actually really loving both the Datejust and Day Date lines a lot. I'm actually kind of put off by the all the hype that the sports models get nowadays.

I guess its just me getting older but given the choice, I would do it. The Day Date, especially with the president bracelet, is a grail watch for many including myself. I also personally find the day of the week complication more useful than a timing bezel. I would also probably be staring at the Day Date more throughout the day than the Sub if it was on my wrist.

One thing to consider is that the president bracelet has no micro adjustment so its a little more complicated to get the watch to size perfectly for your wrist. Especially if your wrist swells a lot during the warmer months. Just like what others have said, you should consider a six digit reference with solid gold center links over an older version.

The fact that your name is on the card (something Rolex does not do nowadays anyway) should not put you off moving that watch on.

For me, I would sell the watch that doesn't get any wrist time, regardless of what name is on a plastic warranty card that has likely now expired anyway.

I have both (126613LB and 18038), despite the DD being gold, the TT sub definitely feels more premium to me, but the DD more flashy.

All depends on your style, do you prefer a vintage or a more modern look.

Go try on the 5 digit and 6 digit DD's and see what you like. Shop all of the watches you own and see what they are worth and what it would cost to make a trade/sale. With this information decide what you want to do. I would look at a YG Submariner or a five digit YG Yacht-Master. Some value there. Keep us posted

Why is your 114060 in the safe, Rolex watches are meant to be worn and enjoyed .?

Why not upgrade to the 126618LN?
I’ve seen on other threads, DD’s being moved on for the YG Submariner
