Yes like all precious metal its heavy but the actual weight in content bears little reality in the retail price of most all precious metal watches. Just like the so designer products today you pay around 25% for the product, and around 75% for the name associated for the product.

I reckon the YG Daytona is heavier compared to YG DD not because it has more gold, but because of the bigger amount of movement parts?

Closer to 15/85. Some might be even 10/90, with their junk made in China for pennies and sold for thousands.

While the labour cost is lower in China they make some very very good products, but like many other countries make some poorly made products

I’m surprised that the Day Date 2 weighs less than the Daytona. It has a bigger case, doesn’t it? Does the President bracelet weigh less than the Oyster one then? Or was that the weight of the Day Date 40 platinum not the Day Date 2?

4 Aussies, beautiful watch! Is that a DD40 or a DD2? Thanks

Thanks 4 Aussies. It’s a really nice watch! I have a DD40 in yellow gold, which I think suits my skin colour more, but those platinum dials are really special! Mine is apparently about 200g, so those platinum watches sure are heavy!!

Ok, so the above list is incorrect as it lists Pt Day Date 2 as 260-270g, when really it is the Day Date 40 at that weight. So a Pt Day Date 2 is almost certainly heavier than a Pt Daytona.

It’s possible that some models were weighed with more links (bracelet) in.

I’d say that the yellow gold Daytona weighs a bit less because the case shape on the non oyster flex yellow gold Daytona is the same shape as the steel and two tone one and a bit slimmer in the lug area on one side compared to the WG/PG/PT case.

I don’t know the composition, but if white gold has more palladium in it, but pink gold more copper, you’d think that white gold would be marginally heavier. But I’m not sure about that and how the two would compare to yellow gold (basically of the three golds, the 25% non gold metals are different so they shouldn’t have the exact same weight I assume).

The chart needs the real day date 2 weights as well as some two tone ones too! I like these charts :-)

The Midases are relatively small and do not have automatic movements; I doubt they are among the heaviest.

I wouldn’t be surprised if two brand new examples of the exact same piece differed by as much as a couple of grams. Stone dials seem likely to add a bit of weight; likewise Myriad dials, with their dial plates made of gold rather than brass.

RG Daytona has a different case than the YG ones. If you look closely (easiest to see from the case back side), the RG has symmetrical lugs while the YG has asymmetric lugs, like the SS Daytona. That smaller lug might contribute to the lower weight for the YG compared to RG Daytona.

As for the SkyD, where the geometry is presumably the same between the RG and YG, I guess the alloys used to make 18k RG are lighter than the alloys used in 18k YG. The bigger case size in the RG Daytona makes up for the extra mass.

Which Rolex has the most gold?

Here’s a review on the actual gold content in a DD 40 228238. Not sure what the total weight of this model is.

Odd that there is no mention of the GMT line.

My 126715 weighs in the 210-220’s fully linked I believe

Here’s 2 examples. Both with 10 links versus 12

Good point. Since Rolex doesn’t publish watch weights, most of these lists aren’t necessarily complete or fully accurate.
