So it will be ok when he is without the suit and with rolled up sleeves dancing...

The watch itself is fine but there are way better looking choices to wear with a suit. That said, no one will care and most will likely be wearing much worse.

Your wrist, you can choose what to put on it.

I think it looks great. I saw some public company boss the other day, can’t remember who, wearing an explorer with a suit. Worked nicely.

I seriously question how many of the "only a dress watch is proper with a suit" crowd wear suits every day.

Like many who wear a suit as standard workwear, I have long ago dismissed the leather strap/gold watch mantra as irrelevant.

I deal with successful professionals, "C" people, and politicians on a daily basis. Many wear suits and they almost never have a 'dress watch" on their writs. And if they have an evening dinner or event, they do not change watches in order to avoid the dated proper attire police.

Enjoy your Explorer II OP. It looks good on your wrist. Wear it with confidence.

I dress up quite a bit, where a dress watch would be appropriate. However, I don’t like dress watches. So, I don’t own any.

I'm in a suit and tie almost every day and I would NEVER feel the need to wear a so called "dress watch" every day. I ignore these type of dumb rules. Like not wearing white after labor day.

Dressy Enough?

There are limits. I certainly wouldn’t wear an Omega Ploprof or a yellow dial Doxa on a yellow rubber strap with a suit.

I have a DJ41 which serves as my dress watch, but if I had to, I’d definitely wear my black dial Submariner with a suit. It’s a classic look.

By rule of etiquette, no … it’s a “Sports” watch.

By modern day thought, wear whatever you want, wherever you want.

FOR ME, a compromise …

- I wear sports watches with suits to fun events, dinners, lunches, work.

- Weddings, funerals, formal events, I wear a dress watch.

Not a stretch (IMO) for a gentleman to own two watches (they do not have to be expensive) … one for casual wear … one for when you need to dress appropriately, e.g., Funerals, Black Tie events.

People are wearing very casual shoes with suits these days.
That watch is good for all occasions.

1) no one will notice what you’re wearing esp with long sleeves

2) i do not like this watch at all with dress clothes. I am iffy with a sub with dress clothes but Exp is a no. Great watch though

I recently attended a wedding at a castle in Italy.
I wore a white dial Exp II

I saw several Apple watches at the wedding

You’ll be fine, OP

I love the contrast of a suit or formal attire with a Rolex--any Rolex. The suit with a touch of rugged adventurer. Wear that gorgeous EXII!!!!

I do agree with most of this, except the first sentence. There aren’t really any rules. I’d classify them more as traditions than rules.

I personally think wearing a brown belt and brown shoes at a “formal” event is a fashion faux pas. Wearing a Submariner is not. That’s something I inherited from my mom. She always told me to wear Navy or dark suits with black shoes and a black belt. Stay away from a brown or gray suit, brown shoes and a brown belt.

Don’t get me wrong. I do wear a brown belt and brown shoes all the time. They look great with a blue sports coat, blue Oxford shirt , and a pair of khakis, but for a wedding or funeral, I’m wearing black shoes and a black belt.

So I can easily argue that an expensive dress watch on a brown leather strap is not appropriate for a “formal” event.

Pretty much any modern Rolex is a dressy watch ... the all bling on some level or another.

By modern standards, yes. By traditional standards, no. I am all for wearing whatever you like but if I was wearing a suit and tie, it would not be the watch I choose.

guys, the fact that he's under 70 and wearing a new Rolex, much less a wrist watch that isn't a smart watch puts him in the top 1% of dressed gentleman...

I very much doubt if he showed up to a business meeting, or a date with that suit and watch, ANYONE would have a critical comment, more likely compliments.

you are fine OP.

It’s the critical comments that would be said when he’s not around that I believe would be worrisome if you cared about such things.

Luckily I don’t. If you’ve got it wear it and if there is mean things to be said, I don’t hear them and they don’t affect my life or enjoyment.

In the photo you posted, you're wearing it with a suit. So, do you think it clashes?
