A family legacy GMT

I personally own many Rolex watches…..specifically professional references dating back to the 70’s. Grail watches like five series Pepsi and Coke GMTs, flat 4 F series 16610LV and 4 line no date Subs are daily wearers.
However, a most special GMT is pictured below.
When the first Ceramic bezel GMT was introduced(116713 LN), I purchased it for my Dad’s 80th birthday. My wife vividly remembers his face upon opening the box.
When he passed away, it was given to my son who has worn it over a decade.
And this weekend, my son and his family came to the DR to visit. So did my Dad’s Rolex, which I’m wearing today.
Putting it on this AM, I could feel my Dad’s presence.

Wow, that's a beautiful story to go along with that beautiful watch! Thanks for sharing. I'm sure your Dad is very happy that you and his Grandson are enjoying his watch. I suspect he is right there with you both and smiling!

This is the kinda piece that has a rich history to it, and how these watches should be enjoyed! Hopefully it will get handed down (along with the stories) generation after generation after generation as it is truly a family heirloom.

Wonderful story! Thanks for sharing something so personal and meaningful. That’s the kind of thread that makes me proud to be a member of TRF.

Absolutely! OP, thanks for sharing. I'd bet your old man would rather be on the warm shores in the DR than shoveling feet of snow up in Ithaca!

These are the stories that make Rolex special. I am the current caretaker of my Abuelo's 1,6xx 5513, which when I expire will pass to one of my sons.

So cool thank you for sharing the story of that awesome GMT! My BLNR is a birth year watch for my son who was just born and I hope it can stay in the family a long time like this piece.
