Patek has historically been reluctant to update movements. I wouldn’t care as it’s an automatic. Still a fun piece at retail price.

I don't see it really as an issue. If you are rotating between 2-3 watches, 48 hours is plenty and if you have a lot more to rotate through the week, >4, you should probably already have a high end watch winder.

Some of my manual wind watch only has 28 hours reserve and I never feel that it is any less than a Rolex. :-)

I'm not sure Patek is really known for, or actually aimed for, the sports market per se. They were literally trying to create a sportier model that differed from their dress lineup and would compete more with the RO than Rolex.

And they were trying to dig out of the quartz crisis. They weren't in a position to create an overly engineered watch. When the watch became a success, there was almost no incentive to change.
