Rolex Tudor Oyster Prince 7928 help please
Hey guys so I'm looking around locally for a vintage Tudor Sub and came across this one. Head only, but looks like a relume dial and no even sure if the dial is real, I'm new to the vintage Tudor thing and the Rose and the writing looks sloppy and incorrect. Anyone with more knowledge it would be appreciated!
He says it's from 1965. |

I don't know about the dial plate, but the printing is definitely not original.

Thanks guys this was my thoughts as well and just glad to have them confirmed. Seems weird though because the movement, case back and case all look good as does the bezel and insert to me at least. Wonder why an aftermarket dial would sneak into the watch. Thanks for your second sets of eyes!

Well I picked up this watch today! 1965 7928 Tudor Sub. Couldn't pass it up at the price I got it for.
Loved the bezel insert and hands, found out that the dial is original, but was relumed and the independent watchmaker tried to redo the writing on the dial, why I have no idea, but I have been talking with MY to get it off to him. Here is the current condition, will be posting photos along the way! |

Quick update, took to a local watch maker who happens to be a friend, Kelly Hunter, which btw if your looking for someone in the Portland area then send me a PM for his info, top notch CW21. He is going to go through the movement and lightly touch up the case. He removed the dial and hands for me to send out to MY in Hong Kong, which were sent today! Should be all back together in 8-10 weeks or so once MY and Kelly do their magic

Good luck with the project, not sure I would have had the stones to tackle it - 99% of the reason I buy a watch is the dial and case, so I hope you got it for next to nothing.

Exactly what I would've done. Based on your dialog I assume you paid $2k or so.

Haha Lgear080 yes that's right around what I got it for, $1900. I figured I would be in it around $2500-$2750 or so after all said and done on a nato, which I figured would be a decent deal and a fun project

That's a good price. Mike will charge you around $300.
Haters gonna hate. Case, movement and insert look good. |

Well my watchmaker just changed things. Called me up and told me to come over for a surprise... He found an original dial from a collector. Not perfect with a little scratch at 3 o'clock, but is original!

Ya I was still planning on that as well. It was already shipped to MY last week so the choice was already made for me I guess as well :) I'm excited to compare once it's back and may keep it as a backup or may sell it depending. Overall I just can't believe I found an original dial the way I did as fast as I did for the price I got it for! Still kinda blown away on how this project has turned

Yip. That's a great dial you've stumbled on - certainly not easy to find 7928 dials. Nice to see a project come together so quickly. End result pics please when you're done |

Wanted to give an update, my watchmaker has gone through the movement and said it's running great. Michael just finished the dial. He did a great job, but I am for sure going to stick with the original dial I found locally. Also when I bought it I didn't realize that the lower left lug at 7pm was dropped and bent in... Well ABC Watchwerks did an amazing job bringing it back. I also found a 93150 bracelet to throw on it. Hands and dial should be back from Michael soon and once the hands are back it's all just going to be put back together, tested and returned! Hopefully a few weeks away! Can't wait!

It's good to see this watch being gradually resurrected through the efforts of several specialists

Looks absolutely amazing. You did a great job picking it up for $1900 and resurrecting it.
I dream of these sort of opportunities. Good Job
