Question about stores in NYC!

When travelling to NYC this year I will visit the below stores on 47th street.

Store 1: WatchGuyNYC
Store 2: LuxurywatchesNYC
Store 3: BestWatchSource

Questions to the forum:

- Has anyone visited them? Whats your thoughts?
- Are they legit dealers?
- Any negative encounters?

Thanks for the help.

My experience with pretty much anything on 47th is the same with every store I've ever walked into. Some have garbage, some have good stuff and some will have a variety of garbage and good stuff thrown into the mix.

Can't speak for any of those three you mentioned but I wouldn't limit my search to those three simply because they pop up on a google search or have artificially inflated reviews on sponsored sites.

Head down to 47th - Look around, hit up the stores that make you feel confident and make sure everything adds up.

I personally have not purchased a watch on 47th and I probably never will. I bought my wife's engagement ring there only because the jeweler is a friend of the family and unfortunately, he doesn't deal in watches.

I made my first visit to 47th St yesterday. It reminded me a lot of going shopping in a non-Western country (i.e. India) which is not in itself a bad thing. The folks I talked to were nice and helpful enough, and there are a ton of watches to look at and try on.

However, I quickly realized that I was out of my depth and I didn't know as much as I needed to know in order to protect myself as a buyer. The whole block between 5th and 6th didn't inspire confidence in the same way I'm confident buying pre-owned from an AD or an online seller with tons of positive feedback like DavidSW. Also, the fact that services like redials were offered at the same stalls selling "authentic" Rolexes made me a little nervous. It was amazing how many different replacement dials were on display.

All in all it was an interesting experience, but I need to become a more knowledgeable buyer before making a purchase there.

You can go to Wempe on 5th Ave and further down the street at the RSC on street level is the Rolex Boutique and of course nearby is Tourneau. Further downtown is William Barthman Jewelers.
47th Street....buyer beware.

If you're a novice used watch buyer, avoid the diamond district.

You need to go into each shop knowing exactly what you want, asking specific questions, and looking into the subtle details. There are many refinished parts, over polished watches, and frankenwatches.

But there are deals to be had if you're buying BNIB. Bring cash...

Unless you are an eagle eyed expert or have a relationship, avoid 47th St for everything.

Wempe is great. I haven't bought there, but looked many times and the customer service is good. Enjoy NY - for the watches and everything the city has to offer. For watches, there are so many company boutiques.

Very wise thoughts.

I tried to google the street and see some images since I can't remember the street when I visited NY last time, and to be honest it gave me some negative vibes. Like you said, it does not feel like a luxury place to buy a rolex from.

Will definitely take a closer look at the places and ask around town when I travel to NYC. I don't mind adding some extra dollars just to buy from a place that gives a more comfortable feeling.

Thanks for the answer.

Can you tell me more about your visit there? How were the dealers? Prices?

Regards

Ok thanks for the heads up.

Rather adding some extra bucks to buy from Wempe, Tourneau and other ADs then the 47th street?

Regards

After reading above comments it looks like I should look at the ADs instead to buy a watch.

To be honest, I am a novice at Rolex watches and have only theoretical knowledge, not practical (not owned a Rolex before).

Thanks for the heads up.
