Do all Rolexes tick at the same volume?

Now, I know rolexes don't tick like traditional clocks, but you can hear their very faint movement when holding them up to your ear.

in complete silence while holding up my Day Date about 1 foot away from my head, I can hear its faint movement. But with my Datejust at the same distance, I don't hear it, and I have to bring it closer to my head.

For those of you with multiple pieces, do you hear their movements from the same distance or does it always vary?

My 1993 AK with the 3000 caliber ticks louder than my 2021 AK with the 3131.

Depends on if you have stealth engaged since they are almost all the same base movement.

There are a few factors at play.
- the amplitude of each movement
- the caliber itself
- the case material
- the layout of the plates
- the caseback thickness

All can vary between models but my SWAG with the scenario you shared is the DJ has a newer caliber and/or lower amplitude.

Most all modern movements tick at 28800 BPH so depending on the case and the space resonance and the persons hearing they all tick around the same.

In a word, No! They are all, pretty quiet, though. Things that affect the sound:
Size of movement
Size of case
Type of rotor
Size of rotor
Whether there is a spacer
Material of spacer
Thickness of case
To sum up, so many variables affect how we hear the movement.
With a Rolex, as with any high end mechanical watch, you should have to hold it very close to your ear, in order to hear it, at all.

Always wanted an oyster quartz… until I actually heard one. Louder than a swatch, which is really saying something.

Had a GF in college who asked me to put the Swatch in the drawer at night - she could hear it sitting on the nightstand or my wrist.

I always have a watch on my wrist, even while sleeping, and I've found an interesting thing by happy accident. If I have my watch on my wrist under my pillow and have my ear against the pillow, it seems to amplify the ticking sound. My modern Rolex watches tick more quietly and quickly than vintage Rolex watches. This is more of an art than a science comparison.
