Can an AP 15400 handle reasonable daily wear?
I was reading that AP RO can be a real scratch magnet. I'm wondering if the RO can handle 5-6 days a week of daily wear. Within reason of course, not going to be performing anything manual labor wise with it on my wrist. I know all watches will scratch. It's part of the experience and all that jazz... I still want to figure out how much scratches show on the 15400. I'm an AP newbie.
Comparing the RO to a Rolex datejust 41 (polished bezel, oyster bracelet). Does AP use softer steel? Is the finish of the AP easier to notice scratches? What's your take? |

If you’re familiar with PCLs and the scratch magnet that they are, you’ll be fine, scratch-wise. The RO bracelet is predominantly brushed, so you’ll get away with more than the Oyster bracelet.

That's pretty sweet news. Equivalent more or less to the Oyster brushed links on a SS sub? How about the bezel?

I had a 15400 and you really cant see the scratches on the bracelet, the brushed finish hides them well. Only scratches on the front of the bezel will bug you. I had mine for 7 months and the bezel was still perfect, Just be careful and youll be fine

15400 is not as tall as say a ROO but you will get scratches on the bezel if it is a daily watch and they do show with the finishing it has.
So it will happen, the question is how much is too much. On my steel ROO to start with it was ok, but the scratches combined with a dodgy service experience put me off it and I sold it. However I do have a non metal bezel ROO still so it did not put me off the overall design. |

Can’t speak to the 15400 - but my diver is holding up great after 6 months of virtually daily wear.
Scraped it against some equipment today and expected to see marks but nothing. It’s probably more resilient than you think. The polished bezel edges seem to hold up very well indeed. A few small scratches on the buckle but nothing major at all.

It really all depends on wrist presence. A friend and I bought a few relatively close to one another and mine is near mint. His, not so much. The bracelet as others mentioned hide stuff as well, much better than the PCL of others.

Chiming in on this. I don’t wear a 15400, but I do wear every day, as a rule, my 14800ST D. It is stainless on a strap. No scratches on the case, bezel. For what it’s worth.

I think you will be fine. They hold up well to everyday wear.

It’s one of those things you have to experience for yourself to know. Will you mark up the bezel? Most likely. Is it possible you keep it mint? Yes.
Worth owning? Of course.

Yes it can.
I’ve worn several RO on daily rotation with no issues. Up until a couple of months ago, I wore a 25860.ST almost daily for the better part of two years.

It certainly can handle daily wear. When I owned mine I was just too chicken to put it to the test though.

Special occasions, my PP. Daily wear my AP 14800ST D, the model with a strap, circa 1995.

On the Datejust, the crystal sits very high and thus it takes most of the contacts that may cause scratches.
On the Royal Oak, the crystal is flush fit. If scratches on the bezel disturb you, the RO is not for you, that‘s why I solved the issue by buying a RO Diver with Ceramic bezel as a scratched bezel would bother me. |

Yes, it certainly can. As long as you have some "practice" wearing a watch like this you'll be fine. Would I recommend it for a person's first luxury watch, no I wouldn't.

Any Nautilus is fine fine as a daily, so any RO is too, not even talking ROO

I have had a 15400 since April and I have to admit I don't wear it much. Really just on the weekends going out to a dinner for a few hours.
But that has nothing to do with being worried about scratches or marks. It's mostly because I choose not to wear it to work because I like keeping a low profile in the office. I think it would be fine to wear a RO daily as long as you aren't one of those OCD types obsessing on every hairline, scratch or mark. Personally, I think watches look better after they have built up a patina. So to answer your question, yes, you can. As long as you aren't worried about a little flash and aren't OCD about marks. |

I dont think the AP 15400 is flashy enough for me tbh. Nobody knows what AP is sadly.

Try and locate the IP version of the 26331 Chrono. The addition/contrast of platinum bits versus the rest in titanium creates a lot more pop and wow factor if that is what you are after.

I also think the person wearing it has a large part to play in how a watch is perceived.

Soon owned my 15400 for three years. Have dailed it in periods of time and it is usually my watch of choice when traveling. Of course it has a couple of nicks and scratches but it has hold up well. Bracelet stretch is not that bad either, more comfortable then ever and has many good years left.

Its plenty flashy and is like a disco ball on your wrist when the light hits the bracelet. People will recognize a nice watch even if they dont know what it is. Mine is over 3 years old and still looks pretty good

Why would it not be a daily wear watch? It is made of steel with no diamonds or precious metals. It is a simple 3 hand, not a complex function. I would say wear it , never polish and make it your own. If no one knows what it is all the better.

Of course, I use a 5712 as a daily without problem and they are supposed to be more fragile than RO models, go for it
