"My" PAM - the 233
Hi everyone,
new member here and I'm pleased to say after half a year of research of all the PAMs that have been produced since Guido & Sons signed the contract with the Royal Italian Navy and in turn, contracted Rolex, I finally found my PAM I could write volumes about how I came to choose the 233 (actually, I did...). This time I think I'll keep it simple with some nice imagery*, hope you like them *click-the-pics for hi-res goodness Wearing Toshi's Storm Grey... Domed sapphire crystal... ...mounted with a polished bezel on a brushed 1950 Luminor case... Wearing Toshi's cocoa... The heart of the 233 - the P.2002/1, OP's first in-house Neuchâtel Manufacture movement... Hand-wound, three-barrels, 8-day reserve, zero-reset secs, 21 jewels, 247 components, KIF shock system... Hrs, mins, secs, 12-hr GMT and AM/PM hands, numerical date, power reserve indicator... OP's Quick-release system... LumiNova AG's Super LumiNova, compared on watches from three different Manufactures... 30s exposures @f/8; Please note that all three are visible down to the 30min mark; If you cannot see them, your monitor may need adjustment. Thanks everyone
Alex, that's a nice shot of yours - makes me want to take out the box and shoot that too, hehe It's a pleasure to photograph such a beauty but at the same time, the mirror-polished steel is a PITA... talk about multiple-takes for many of those shots... The only thing harder to shoot were my Rocksteads... |

These pictures are very informative as well as beautiful
I like the watch that I learned to appreciate earlier (based on Alex's on another thread). Impressive how the 233's designer integrated the GMT, date and 8 day readings into the dial using the no-nonsense aesthetic of the base Panerai--nothing flashy, no mechanical or nautical references, but it's got that big versus small understanding and the thunky submarine feel. Not all Panerai functions have been styled in this manner. Makes me wonder which designer did the 233 and what other models as well. Thanks for sharing. RC |

I returned to this thread because I admire the pictures--both Traveller's and Alex's. They make the 233 look very cool.

Your pictures are outstanding, are you a professional? I can never get mine that sharp, do you use a box? That grey strap is really setting off the watch.

As I'm always happy to share with anyone that asks, my recipe is trial & error plus a very sharp macro lens. I'm a Canon man, so in my case, the EF-S 60mm macro was perfect. It has paid for itself many times over, considering the quality of the results. This lens has three benefits; 1:1 macro capability, very sharp fixed (non-zoom) lens and coupled with an APS-C format body, doubles as a portrait lens too |

This thread has to be one of the best introductions to a new watch. Your photos are excellent. I get the feeling you are influencing a lot of people with them.
Thanks for the wrist shots, keep them coming! Cheers!
