Omega Speedmaster TinTin

I saw on YouTube on Federico talks watches that the TinTin speedmaster has been shooting up in value, is this the speedmaster to buy?

Is the future value your sole motivation?

I bought one about 5 years ago because I thought it looked cool. I still love it. It’s been on an Omega black and red NATO since day 1. I believe they are now discontinued. It’s a great looking watch..to me. Not one you see every day.

I was a huge TinTin comic reader/fan growing up. A couple of years ago I found out about this watch and immediately bought it. It will stay in my collection forever.

Tintin or Ultraman? Also, is a full set critical with these?

Thx

Full set is always better. Also with these you have to make sure that the serial number correctly corresponds to TinTin model reference (usually Omega Boutique or Service Center can help checking these serials with the model reference). There are some on eBay that started its life as regular Speedmaster and then modded with TinTin dial.

They would also have had to mod the caseback, as it is different.

If you meant for investment purposes, then yes a full set is important in the medium term. However, the TinTin came with a regular large blonde-timber box, so it could be replaced if you could only get a watch with papers. The Ultraman, on the other hand, has a unique box and it would detract significantly from value if that was missing. That said, I don’t advocate watches as an investment, as sentiment in the marketplace can turn at any moment and for many reasons.

I think you’ve missed the boat a little with this one then. It trades high already. Not saying it won’t go higher but a couple of years ago these were much cheaper

I saw the video as well, the price appears to have doubled from what I paid for mine a few years back surely its only going up, its not made any more and my understanding is it was produced in very small numbers.

It was my first luxury watch I love it and would not sell it in a rush.

Yes your a bit late, a few years ago these could be had new at a discount, it would seem for now the only way is going up.

The Omega Moon to Mars numbered edition seems to be the same, prices have doubled in the last couple of years.
