16570 polar vs 216570 black....$500 difference

I have the opportunity to buy either a 16570 polar or 216570 black at only a $500 difference. I honestly like both and both wear nice as well.

What would you do?

I would pick the one I like more.. Then I would question my decision for the next few weeks. Then I would talk myself in to believing the one I chose was the right one and then talk myself out of it a few more times. After a month or so, I would know if I made the right choice.

Would honestly need to know more about the 16570 in order to make an informed decision. Year of production, condition, service history, etc.

Fair point. The 16570 is a W serial with a light polish. Neither has box or papers but both are priced accordingly and from a trusted seller. No service history on either. Both running at +3 and 275 to 280 amplitude.

I like the 16570 white dial! I think it’s gonna be the next big classic....

216570 all day for me. Probably my favorite watch I own. The 16570 doesnt look as classic as a 16610 or 16660 versus there contemporary.

If you like both, Personally I’d take the newer model. But I happen to like the 16570 more than the 216750

If you like both of them equally, as it sounds like, I would tend to lean toward the newer model as well. However the polar 16570 does have some potential as a future collector's piece. If that kind of consideration moves the needle for you, something to keep in mind. If you don't care about such matters I'd definitely say go with the 216570.

One thing that cannot really be debated is that you'd be getting a whole heck of a lot more watch for 500 bucks by going with the 216570.

I have the black dial 216570 and it is one of my favorite watches. I originally wanted the polar but the black dial is what came into inventory first at my AD. I have only seen the polar in pictures but if given the opportunity to trade my black dial I doubt that I would.

I own both but for same price - and if its only $500 difference, you are over paying for 5 digit and underpaying for 6 digit. Go for 6 digit reference IMO!

216570 without question for me. I have a 42 Polar but the black one in person is a killer piece. Not a naysayer but I wouldn't bank on the 5 dgts. taking off in value like the Subs and Gmts did.

Personally I'd hang on for a 42mm Polar. It really is something special if your wrist will take it comfortably.

But that's just my opinion.

The black dial has a lot going for it too.

I would need to know more about price and condition, but I'm 5 digit all day, every day. I also have a 6.75" wrist. Those cases in the various references are the best that there are in the watch world in my opinion. 16570 polar is my next moderately expensive watch.

Interesting they both wear well. I owned a 16570 polar and really liked everything about it other than the size. It wore too small for my taste so I ultimately sold it (but it was so, so comfortable). I tried on the 216570 polar and it wore a bit big for my taste. Also love the look of that watch, but neither seemed to work for me.

With that said, if I had to choose between the two, I’d choose the six digit, but only by a hair. Upgraded bracelet, more legible, better lume, orange accents - all push me in favor of the six digit.

No offense but the 16570 was never a "next big classic" until the supply of Subs and GMTs went dry.
Go for the bigger 6 digit reference.

There's quite a big difference in the lug-to-lug measurement of the 16570 & 216570. The 6 digit literally hung over my wrist on both sides, but if you have the wrist size to wear it- no problem for you.

Second question is whether you already have a black dial Rolex sport (I'm guessing you do), in which case I would go for the polar dial, either in the 16570 or wait for a white 216570 if the size/look suit you.

Depends on your wrist size. Anything smaller than 7in and I would go for the 16570.

Hmmm let's see...

With the 5 digit you get a less adjustable bracelet, and a tuna can clasp. With the 6 digit, you get a more adjustable bracelet and and easy link. Yeah, that's a tough one.

Oh wait. I forgot to factor in the investment aspect...Nah. I buy my watches to wear and enjoy.

Having owned a 16570 Polar and worn a 216570, I much prefer the latter. While I do slightly prefer the 40mm size, the more modern bracelet makes a world of difference.

The question for me would be can your wrist handle the 42mm case size? People have said it wears larger than the 42mm size would suggest.

If you can, then I'd go for the new reference every day. Unless of course you really want a polar dial. Then that would overrule getting the newer reference unless you paid a little more for the 42mm polar.

Lots of great posts, and agree wrist size and preferred style should sift out the choice. Both are great timepieces.

The popular zeitgeist is that 40mm Explorer is the next big thing but having had one and now owning the 42mm I.M.O the 42mm is vastly superior in every way, bracelet, lume, movement, hands, dial etc etc. The 40mm is nice but between both the 42mm gets vote.

Here's an update for everyone. I've secured the 216570 and my AD (Govberg) is getting it brought in from one of their other locations. I'm also trying to negotiate a little more off of the 16570 in parallel. I figured the 6 digit is priced very well and I can't really go wrong with either. If I can get the 5 digit as well, I can sort out which one I like over the next few months and probably not be out anything if I decide to get rid of one.
