As you know, many entry level vintage watches have sky rocketed in value. Brands such as Universal Geneve, Heurer, Longines, etc., have soared in recent values, and SS Sports watches have absolutely exploded.

It's really tough to find an affordable vintage mechanical watch that is worth collecting. Sure you can buy something beat out of shape, but in my mind, that isn't worth it. Granted, one could buy the soon to be vintage crop, but I think even that is getting pricey too.

So one day on Ebay, I saw a pretty cool Tag Heurer diver that was quartz and had a very low price tag. This lead me to think --- is Vintage Quartz going to be a thing?

I'm personally a huge fan of Quartz...so collectability aside, that's where it's at for me in the watch game.

Select vintage quartz pieces are already unaffordable; I would love a Beta 21 Patek or Rolex 5100, but at $20K+ for either model (significantly more for the PP) it will always be out of my price range.

I expect these pieces to only continue to climb in price too, unfortunately. Nice watches rarely go down in value....

Agreed! I imagine there is a shelf life with vintage quartz however. At some point i imagine Rolex for example may not be able to service their quartz watches due to not having parts. I think the oyster quartz is really cool.

Some people already collect Seiko Grand Quartz and King Quartz watches from the 1970s. They can go for several hundred dollars. Grand Seiko 9f quartz movements are said to be able to go for 50 years without a service, so those are the ones I would look at for longevity. And of course the finishing on those these days is second to none.

Grand Seiko 9F quartz is pretty much flawless especially in dial and hands execution. They released a GMT quartz movement recently which is HAQ and has an independently adjustable hour hand.

What Adam is collecting IMO will see large appreciation in the coming years. The attitude that meaningful horology requires a mechanical movement is already losing steam. Patek, AP and FPJ have quartz in production right now

I can definitely see it coming. Especially also since influencers and dealers can start to buy up stock and then start pushing for quartz. I've already seen a few start doing it.

Believe in Breitlings, GS and Rolex OQ for example.

Is it strange that I've been itching to pick up a Breitling SuperQuartz piece or two?

I'm on the list for the limited edition GS GMT as well, mostly because I find +/- 5s/yr to be incredibly fascinating.
