Heart Of Darkness

Finally got some Noodlers Heart of Darkness from Amazon.com the other day. It comes in a dropper bottle with a free fountain pen. The pen's pretty much junk, a clear plastic direct fill model, some sites refer to it as a "preppy" FP. It's good for a work beater.

On to the Ink. It's probably the blackest ink I've used, which is exactly what I was looking for when I bought it. I've only inked up the freebie pen with it since I have the other FP's inked up with the Aurora Blue and Noodlers Blue Black already. This stuff seems pretty good, it's their Eternal series (I believe the bottles at home), and it doesn't feather even on cheap recycled paper. I'm really happy with it.

I'd recommend it to anyone wanting a high quality, dark black ink. I'll put up some samples later on.

Have yiu used their Bulletproof Black (also eternal)? If so can you tell a difference next to each other. I find the Bulletproof will feather a little on cheap paper but dries really fast.

I absolutely HATE BLACK INK!

I don't even own a bottle of it.

So many other "colors" to enjoy! Black is so extremely depressing...........!

Yes Jerry, I have, and this SEEMS to not feather at all. But then again I'm laying down a fine line with the cheapie pen. when the Aurora Blue I have in my MB runs out I'll give it a proper test.

For general writing at work (hence the need for little to no feathering on cheap paper) Black is great. If I was to start using too many colors on my daily files it would look rather insane. HOWEVER, the pens i use for signatures get the colors.

Here are some of my ink samples. As you can see, little to no feathering on either Noodlers. This is on some REALLY cheap copy paper as well.

Black definitely has its place for me, but Richard has a point, one of the beauty's of using an FP is the huge palette of colors to choose from. I use Aurora black and it is truly a pitch black color.

I was just looking at my scan....the Lamy Blue and both Noodlers are pretty accurate. The Aurora Blue I'm using has a bit of a purplish tint to it (might be a new favorite) and the Monteverde burgundy looks kind of brownish when it dries and sets.

So is the heart of darkness ink pretty dry? Also, is it permanent?

I wouldn't call it dry, but I don't have a problem with it smudging. And yes, it's one of Noodlers "Eternals".
