what on earth happened to this watch ?

Seller said the dial "was erased" lol . What can cause something like this ? water damage?

No, it's not damage. The dial paint and markings were all removed by hand or machine.
Why? Well, that may remain a mystery

Beautifully faded dial with tropical overtones, should be viewed in the dark to be fully appreciated.

Boom, it's sold!. I'm all for buying busted old watches and fixing them up but his asking price was very high IMO considering what you were getting.
